We are seeking Bambara Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Bambara, a Mande language widely spoken in Mali and across West Africa, is a rare but critical language often needed in asylum and immigration interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time Bambara ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret accurately, neutrally, and professionally in immigration, asylum, and legal contexts.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and confidentiality standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications

  • Native or near-native fluency in Bambara and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, NGO, or government preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
