Backend Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Backend Engineer to join our remote team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, enhancing, and maintaining backend systems that support our core applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions that meet the needs of our users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs to support application functionality.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and product managers to create seamless integrations between the backend and user interfaces.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to team best practices, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, bugs, and other technical challenges in a timely manner.
• Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for backend services, APIs, and system architecture.
• Continuously learn and apply best practices in software development, including testing, version control, and deployment processes.

Requirements

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, Node.js, or Ruby.
• Familiarity with web frameworks and RESTful API design principles.
• Understanding of database management systems, both SQL and NoSQL, and their application in backend architectures.
• Basic knowledge of cloud services and platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) as they relate to backend development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems, particularly Git.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and containerization technologies like Docker.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Interest in learning about new technologies and applying them to improve our backend systems.
• Prior involvement in open-source projects or contributions to community forums.
