This is a remote position.
We are looking for an experienced Azure Data Architect to design and deliver consumption-ready, business-aligned Gold layer datasets on Databricks. The role focuses on transforming refined data into high-quality, analytics-ready datasets that support policy lifecycle reporting, underwriting insights, and downstream data products across multiple policy administration systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and analyse existing Silver layer data structures to identify gaps and optimization opportunities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand analytics and reporting use cases (policy lifecycle, Claims, underwriting, renewals, exposure, premium)
- Design scalable Gold layer data models (star schema, snowflake, or wide tables) aligned to business needs
- Standardize and harmonize data across multiple policy & Claims systems
- Develop and implement business transformation logic including KPIs, derived metrics, and aggregations
- Build and manage Delta Lake tables in Databricks for Gold layer consumption
- Optimize data pipelines and storage for performance using partitioning, indexing, caching, and query tuning
- Enable seamless data consumption for Power BI and downstream data products
- Perform data validation and reconciliation with business stakeholders to ensure accuracy and usability
- Drive best practices in data architecture, modelling, and governance
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong experience in Azure Data Platform (Azure Databricks, ADLS, Azure Data Factory)
- Deep expertise in Databricks (PySpark / SQL) and Delta Lake
- Proven experience in data modelling (dimensional modelling, star/snowflake schemas)
- Experience working with insurance/policy systems (Duck Creek, Guidewire, or similar) preferred
- Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture and modern Data Lakehouse design
- Hands-on experience in performance tuning and optimization in big data environments
- Experience enabling BI tools such as Power BI
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Effective collaboration with business and engineering teams
- Ownership mindset with focus on delivering high-quality data products
Requirements
Nice to have:
- Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview)
- Knowledge of data quality frameworks and reconciliation techniques
- Exposure to domain-driven design in data platforms
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in Data Engineering / Data Architecture roles, with strong focus on Azure Data Platform
- Proven experience in designing and implementing Databricks-based lakehouse architectures and Gold layer data models
- Hands-on expertise in Azure Databricks, ADLS, Azure Data Factory, and Delta Lake
- Strong background in dimensional data modeling (star schema, snowflake, wide tables) and analytics data design
- Experience working on enterprise-scale data platforms, preferably in Insurance/Policy domains
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Databricks certifications are preferred
