Quick facts

Ten hours a week, from home, on a steady long term seat with an established Australian accounting and financial planning practice. Not their client files. Their own books.

You will produce the debtor list and the creditor reports the Directors rely on, allocate disbursements across the practice's jobs, support the fortnightly payroll run and pick up month end from the first working day of each month. You will also book the Directors' travel and accommodation as it comes up.

The practice has an office manager who has simply run out of hours. You are not replacing her. You are taking the finance half of her job so it gets done properly rather than last. That means you will be shown the practice's way of doing things once and then left to run it.

What you will be doing

• Producing the debtor list and following up overdue accounts
• Preparing creditor reports for the Directors and keeping supplier payments on schedule
• Allocating disbursements across the practice's jobs
• Supporting the fortnightly payroll run
• Picking up month end tasks from the first working day of each month
• Booking travel and accommodation for the Directors as it comes up

The hours are flexible inside the Australian business day and the days are set with you a couple of weeks ahead, so the role fits around other commitments rather than replacing them. The practice expects it to grow toward twenty hours a week as more work moves across, and the additional hours are paid as they are worked.

What you will need

• At least 2 years of experience in bookkeeping, or in accounts payable and receivable
• Hands on experience running both the debtor side and the creditor side inside an accounting system
• Experience supporting a payroll run
• Experience with month end tasks
• Availability for 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, inside 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM PHT
• Clear written English, because the Directors read your reports
• A reliable internet connection and a quiet place to work

Nice to have

• Experience with Australian businesses, or with Australian payroll
• Experience inside an accounting, financial planning or other professional services firm
• Xero, MYOB, or practice management software such as XPM, MYOB AE/AO or APS
• Experience allocating disbursements or recharging costs to client jobs
