Bring the World to Trafalgar

What if you could help a young person from another country experience the best of American life right here in your own community?

Pan Atlantic Foundation is seeking a motivated, community-minded Area Representative in Trafalgar, Indiana, to connect international high school students with welcoming host families, local schools, and opportunities to become part of the community.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys meeting people, building relationships, connecting with local organizations, and helping young people create memories that last a lifetime.

Trafalgar offers something special for an international student: the chance to experience small-town America, where neighbors know one another, community traditions matter, and everyday life can become an unforgettable cultural adventure.

From exploring the outdoors at nearby state parks to attending local festivals, cheering at high school sporting events, discovering Indiana's agricultural heritage, and enjoying family gatherings and community celebrations, students can experience a side of American life they might never encounter as a tourist.

You can help make Trafalgar a place where the world feels welcome.

What You'll Actually Do

1. Connect Local Families With International Students

Help families discover the rewards of welcoming an international student into their homes and sharing their everyday lives.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Sharing hosting opportunities through social media, personal connections, community groups, and local events.
  • Responding to individuals and families interested in learning about the program.
  • Meeting with prospective host families and explaining program expectations.
  • Completing required host family interviews and approval steps.
  • Helping families understand the commitment and support available throughout the exchange.
  • Maintaining relationships with host families before and during the student's stay.

You don't need to know everyone in Trafalgar to get started. You need a willingness to make connections, start conversations, and help local families see the world from a new perspective.

2. Build Relationships With Local Schools

A successful exchange experience begins with a school community where students can learn, make friends, participate in activities, and experience American high school traditions.

You'll work to:

  • Establish relationships with local high schools and school personnel.
  • Identify schools interested in welcoming international exchange students.
  • Communicate with administrators and school counselors.
  • Help coordinate student enrollment and required documentation.
  • Build awareness of cultural exchange opportunities throughout the surrounding area.

Your local knowledge and community connections can help create opportunities for students while strengthening relationships between schools, families, and the international community.

3. Help Students Discover the Best of Trafalgar and Johnson County

For an international student, the American experience isn't just about attending school. It's about discovering the traditions, people, places, and everyday moments that make a community unique.

Trafalgar and the surrounding region offer plenty of opportunities to explore.

Depending on their interests and their host family's activities, students may enjoy:

  • Outdoor adventures at nearby state parks. Explore hiking trails, wooded landscapes, wildlife, and the natural beauty of Indiana at places such as Brown County State Park and the surrounding recreational areas.
  • Discovering Hoosier small-town life. Experience local diners, community gatherings, seasonal festivals, farmers markets, and the friendly atmosphere of smaller Indiana communities.
  • American high school traditions. Attend football and basketball games, school dances, pep rallies, concerts, and other activities that help students feel connected to their classmates.
  • Exploring local farms and Indiana agriculture. Learn about the state's farming traditions, visit seasonal pumpkin patches or corn mazes, and experience fall harvest activities.
  • Enjoying the outdoors. Spend time hiking, biking, fishing, camping, or exploring nearby parks and recreational areas with their host families.
  • Experiencing Indianapolis and surrounding attractions. Take day trips to museums, sporting events, concerts, cultural attractions, shopping districts, and major community events.
  • Discovering Nashville and Brown County. Explore the area's arts, crafts, local shops, seasonal celebrations, and scenic landscapes.
  • Making everyday memories. Celebrate Thanksgiving, decorate for Christmas, enjoy summer cookouts, try American foods, visit local attractions, and participate in family traditions.

For a teenager coming from another country, even an ordinary Friday-night football game, a family trip to a pumpkin patch, or an afternoon exploring a state park can become a treasured part of their American experience.

The goal isn't to plan an expensive vacation. It's to help students feel included in the everyday life of their community.

4. Support Students, Host Families, and Schools

Once a student arrives, you'll help ensure they are adjusting well and receiving the support they need throughout their exchange experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming students and helping them get connected to their new community.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and host families.
  • Completing required supervision visits and ongoing check-ins.
  • Encouraging participation in school activities, clubs, sports, and community events.
  • Helping students and host families work through questions or concerns.
  • Communicating significant issues to Pan Atlantic Foundation staff.
  • Serving as a local resource throughout the exchange experience.

You won't be expected to navigate every situation alone. Pan Atlantic Foundation provides training, resources, and ongoing support, including 24/7 emergency assistance.

Who Would Be a Great Fit?

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, dependable, and comfortable meeting new people.
  • A natural relationship builder who enjoys connecting with families and community members.
  • Organized and able to manage responsibilities independently.
  • Comfortable communicating with parents, teenagers, educators, and community leaders.
  • Willing to make phone calls, follow up, and build relationships over time.
  • Able to handle sensitive situations with maturity and good judgment.
  • Excited about cultural exchange and helping young people succeed.
  • Interested in becoming more involved in the local community.

Experience in education, recruiting, coaching, customer service, sales, youth programs, nonprofit organizations, hospitality, counseling, family services, or community leadership can be helpful, but previous exchange program experience is not required.

Training and ongoing program support are provided.

Candidates must be at least 25 years old and successfully complete the required background check.

A Flexible Part-Time Opportunity That Fits Around Your Life

This isn't a traditional 9-to-5 job. It's a flexible, community-based opportunity that can fit around your existing career, family responsibilities, and personal schedule.

Some tasks can be completed from home, while others involve meeting prospective host families, communicating with schools, attending community events, or checking in with students.

Your schedule will vary depending on student placements and program responsibilities. Success requires initiative, consistent follow-through, and a willingness to build relationships over time.

Whether you're an educator, a working professional, a parent, retired, or simply looking for meaningful part-time work, this role offers a way to make a difference without committing to a traditional full-time position.

Compensation and Opportunities

  • $1,000 per successful student placement
  • Flexible, part-time independent contractor position (1099)
  • No traditional hourly wage or salaried base
  • Opportunities to earn international travel through qualifying program incentives
  • Training, resources, and ongoing support from Pan Atlantic Foundation

Compensation is placement-based, so earnings depend on successful placements and program requirements.

Your Local Territory

The primary focus will be Trafalgar and surrounding Johnson County communities, with outreach and student support extending into nearby areas as appropriate.

Local connections can be especially valuable in communities such as Trafalgar, Franklin, Bargersville, Whiteland, Greenwood, and surrounding areas, depending on school participation and territory needs.

We're interested in individuals who can develop relationships with:

  • Local high schools and educators.
  • Parent and family networks.
  • Youth and sports organizations.
  • Churches and faith communities.
  • Civic groups and community organizations.
  • Local businesses and employers.
  • Community festivals, events, and recreational programs.

You don't need an established network in every community. You simply need to be willing to build one.

Why Become a Pan Atlantic Area Representative?

This role gives you the opportunity to:

  • Make a meaningful difference in a young person's life.
  • Help local families experience another culture without leaving home.
  • Build connections throughout your community.
  • Work independently with a flexible schedule.
  • Develop recruiting, communication, and community outreach skills.
  • Join a broader international exchange network.
  • Earn income through successful student placements.
  • Pursue opportunities for international travel.

Most importantly, you'll help create an experience that students will remember long after they return home.

Trafalgar Has a Story to Share. Help the World Experience It.

International exchange is about more than introducing students to America. It's about building friendships, sharing traditions, discovering new perspectives, and creating connections that cross borders.

If you're community-minded, organized, dependable, and excited about helping international students experience life in Indiana, we'd love to hear from you.
