About Orange Sky Aotearoa / Mō Orange Sky Aotearoa

Orange Sky is the world’s first free mobile laundry and shower service, providing support to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Launched in Aotearoa in 2018, after beginning in Australia, our kaupapa is to connect communities through working alongside service partners and community groups to uphold the dignity and mana of friends and whānau experiencing homelessness and hardship.

In Aotearoa, we are privileged to walk alongside whānau and communities in need, fostering genuine connections through clean clothes, warm showers, and meaningful kōrero. With 41,600 Kiwis (1 in 120) experiencing homelessness, our kaupapa is to break down barriers and bring people together through acts of connection and kindness. We’re driven, dedicated, insanely ambitious and a little unconventional. We take our work seriously but have plenty of fun along the way. We work hard and ‘get it done’ but always make time to celebrate each other’s success.

The Role / Te Tūranga

The role of an Orange Sky Director is to provide strategic leadership and direction, to monitor financial performance and oversee the Chief Executive Officer (who sits across both Australia and Aotearoa). Directors must fulfil their corporate governance and fiduciary obligations and responsibilities with care and due diligence to the best of their abilities to ensure the long-term sustainability of Orange Sky. Directors act in a volunteer capacity.

Time Commitment / Te Wā e Hiahiatia Ana

• 1 meeting/hui every 2 months + ad hoc meetings and events in NZ
• 1-2 hours of prep per meeting
• 45 minute monthly call with the CEO and joining the Orange Sky Australia Board meeting once per year
• Attend an Orange Sky shift each quarter (location dependent)
• 3 year term with potential to extend

About You / Mōu

Orange Sky is seeking a Chair who is passionate about partnering with the CEO and Board to advance our strategic vision and create meaningful impact across Aotearoa. This role requires a collaborative leader who can foster strong governance, support organisational growth and demonstrate a genuine commitment to working alongside Tangata Whenua in a way that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles.

We would particularly love to hear from candidates who can bring:

• Board Chair Experience - Proven experience leading a Board of Directors, including facilitating effective meetings, fostering constructive and inclusive discussion, supporting strong Board performance and building a productive partnership with the CEO.
• Governance, Finance and Risk Expertise - Strong knowledge of corporate governance, financial oversight and risk management, with the ability to interpret financial reports, support sound decision-making and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
