Job Description:     
  • Conduct multiple telephonic hearings each day, take testimony, make evidentiary rulings, develop a complete hearing, and control the course of the hearing while maintaining judicial temperament and decorum among parties.
  • Review case files and/or hearing record in preparation for hearing.
  • Ensure proper legal notice to the parties of the time, date and place of hearing, and ensure the proper issues are noticed.
  • Timely draft and issue final decisions applying Federal and Arizona law to the facts adduced at the hearing.
  • Respond immediately to work-related communications throughout the workday.

 Other Information:
  • Monday-Friday only, Work occurs during Arizona business hours.
  • 100% Remote - Out-of-state candidates are acceptable
  • Out-of-state candidates will be expected to use their own computers and other hardware. Virtual desktop will be used and access to software will be through Virtual Desktop.
  • Please submit a writing sample with application.
  • Tentative start date will be dependent upon interviews conducted, onboarding completed, and the state agency issuing a PO. 
  • 100% Remote - Out of state candidates are acceptable. 
  • JD Degree is required. Candidates submitted without this degree will be denied.           
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent time management skills. Must be able to complete high volume of cases within tightly prescribed timelines.
  • Ability to write clearly and plainly about complex legal issues.
  • Extensive working knowledge of, or the ability to learn and apply, the rules of evidence, rules of administrative procedure, rules of judicial and legal ethics and due process requirements.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the federal and state laws and regulations applicable to various administrative programs.
  • Understand human behavior and psychology.
  • Working knowledge of word processing software, communications software and the ability to learn proprietary applications required for the position.
  • Be an active listener.
  • Analyze and synthesize complex information from various sources quickly.
  • Diplomatically control and minimize conflict between parties
 
Preferred Candidate will have:
  • Previous experience serving as a hearing officer in administrative hearings.
  • Graduation from an accredited undergraduate university or college.
  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Located in Arizona.
  • Membership and maintain good standing with any state Bar Association
 
Required Skills:
  • Experience working as an administrative hearing officer.
