Job Description

EDES 330X: Costume Design & Digital Visualization

Course description:  Through the creation of original costume designs, students explore storytelling, character development, and digital visualization. The course guides students through the contemporary costume design process, from early visual research and concept sketches to textile design, technical communication, 3D garment creation, and photorealistic rendering.

Course goals subject to adjustment by instructor:
Using industry-standard digital tools and workflows, students develop practical skills in visualizing and presenting costume concepts for theatre and film, themed entertainment, fashion, and emerging immersive media.

This position is available for remote work in FL.

Course Goals:

Develop an integrated approach to costume design that connects storytelling, character development, and visual communication within a digital workflow. Build research skills that support concept development, world-building, and informed design decision-making. Develop fluency in digital tools and workflows used for textile creation, garment construction exploration, and costume visualization. Strengthen understanding of form, silhouette, and material behavior through iterative 3D exploration and refinement. Develop effective visual communication skills for presenting design in professional critique and presentation contexts.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree that demonstrates expertise appropriate for teaching a course/s listed in this announcement OR a 4-year professional degree (BFA) in art or design and equivalent expertise, training and experience, with an appropriate record of professional creative achievement.
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating skills and experience in the curricular area.
  • A repertoire of engaging teaching techniques that reaches out to a variety of learning styles.
  • Familiarity with digital technologies in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in art, design, theater.
  • Entertainment Industry Experience with costuming.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • Significant professional creative practice.
