The Law Society of BC is seeking a temporary Academic Support Instructor in our Professional Legal Training Course department to work part-time (17.5 hours per week) on a fully-remote basis with students in the PLTC Completion Program, helping them to prepare for assessments and exams. The duration of the term is August 31, 2026 to November 20, 2026, with the opportunity of a further short-term contract in early 2027.

The duties of the position include:              

  • Prepare and deliver virtual skills workshops before each of the four assessments (Drafting, Advocacy, Writing, and Interviewing) in Cycle 1
  • Provide individual tutoring to final candidates as directed, giving priority to Indigenous students
  • Undertake such other duties as the Deputy Director, PLTC may require

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and assessing PLTC students within the last five years.
  • Practicing membership in good standing with the Law Society of BC or eligibility for membership with a minimum of five years of legal practice experience.
  • Superior writing and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, history, culture and social issues of Indigenous communities and people, and an appreciation of the unique perspective Indigenous students bring to PLTC and the legal profession. 

The terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the Law Society of BC and the Professional Employees Association apply to this position.

The standard annual salary for the Academic Support Instructor role is $145,326.22 to $176,101.67). As this position is based on a 0.5 FTE, the annual range will be adjusted to $72,663.11 to $88,050.84.
