#134213 - Java Software Engineer - Application Modernization

Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Java Software Engineer to support a large-scale application modernization initiative. This role will help migrate more than 4,000 applications to current Spring Boot, Gradle, and Java versions while partnering with engineering teams to diagnose and resolve migration issues. The work requires deep familiarity with the Java open-source ecosystem and practical experience modernizing enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Support modernization across a large Java application ecosystem.

- Assist teams migrating more than 4,000 applications to the latest Spring Boot versions.

- Migrate applications to Spring Boot 3 and Spring Boot 4.

- Upgrade application builds from Gradle 8 to Gradle 9.

- Support application transitions from Java 17 to Java 25.

- Troubleshoot and resolve framework, build, dependency, and runtime migration issues.

- Collaborate with engineering teams throughout application migrations.

- Communicate migration findings, blockers, and resolutions clearly.

Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

- Strong hands-on experience with Java.

- Experience migrating applications to Spring Boot 3 and Spring Boot 4.

- Experience upgrading Gradle.

- Experience migrating applications from Java 17 to Java 25.

- Deep understanding of the Java open-source ecosystem.

- Experience troubleshooting and resolving application migration issues.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills.

- Ability to work flexible hours that overlap with the US team.

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Experience with large-scale application modernization or migration projects.

- Experience automating application migrations.

- Familiarity with AI tools.

- Familiarity with build optimization and dependency management.

- Experience working with enterprise Java applications at scale.

- Enterprise experience strongly preferred.

Additional Information

Required Tools & Platforms

Location, Time & Engagement

- Candidates must be based in LATAM.

- US Central Time coverage and flexible overlap with the US team are required.

- This is a full-time contract engagement at 40 hours per week.

- The anticipated engagement runs through March 31, 2027.

- This is not currently a contract-to-hire opportunity.
