The role involves analyzing current market structures and evaluating the impact of proposed modifications to support SPP's Market Working Group. It requires collaborating with internal departments and external stakeholders to align software and processes with market design principles.

Lead the execution and maintenance of interregional market processes and seams agreements while serving as the primary contact for members and regulators. Coordinate modifications to market activities and represent the organization's interests in industry and regulatory forums.

Build and maintain strategic relationships with policymakers, member companies, and industry stakeholders across the Western Interconnection. Lead external engagement activities to support SPP's Markets+ initiative and regional expansion efforts.

The Energy Economist will develop data requirements, perform validations, and conduct forecasting analysis to understand and predict load forecast risks driven by electrification and extreme weather. They will collaborate internally and with stakeholders to refine load forecasting principles and assess current process effectiveness for improvements in efficiency, reliability, and transparency.
