AI Summary

You will own the technical end-to-end development for e-commerce clients, including scoping, building, and advising on Shopify projects. You will work directly with agency teams to decide on native versus custom Shopify solutions.

Who we are

Seta Workshop is a small, senior software team based in Montevideo, Uruguay. We work with startups and growth-stage companies in the US and EU, embedded as a real part of their team, not as a vendor. Our founders write code and make architectural calls alongside everyone else. That's just how we work.

This role sits on our Shopify practice. We're the technical layer for a design/dev agency and their portfolio of e-commerce clients. That means you own the technical work end to end: scoping, building, advising. You'll work directly with the agency team, with Seta behind you.

What you'll be working on

Most of what you'll build lives on top of a shared, actively maintained theme framework, so you're not starting from scratch on every project. The stack:

  • Liquid theme development
  • Vite, Tailwind, Lit web components, nanostores
  • Shopify Storefront and Admin APIs (GraphQL)
  • Shopify Functions, metafields and metaobjects
  • Vitest and Playwright for testing, theme-check/ESLint/Prettier for linting
  • GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Shopify CLI for local theme development

Recent work has included migrating a large US retail brand onto Shopify: mapping an existing product catalog into Shopify's data model (products, variants, metafields, metaobjects), and building custom storefront features and app/API integrations on top of that.

This isn't a seat where you just execute someone else's spec. You'll be the one deciding what Shopify can already do natively versus what genuinely needs custom work, and that call shapes real project decisions, not just your own code. If you see a better way to build something, we want to hear it, and we expect you to say so.

What we're hoping to find

2+ years of hands-on Shopify development experience, plus:

  • Strong Liquid skills and comfort with theme architecture: sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects
  • Experience with the Storefront API and/or Admin API for real integrations, not just theme customization
  • Experience with Shopify apps, either building them or integrating third-party ones
  • Good judgment on where Shopify's native capabilities stop, and custom development has to start
  • Comfortable explaining tradeoffs to people who aren't developers
  • Strong written and spoken English. You'll work directly with US-based clients and agency teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Shopify Functions and native discounts/bundles
  • Familiarity with Shopify Markets for multi-region or international storefronts
  • Automated testing experience (unit and end-to-end), not just manual QA
  • Accessibility/WCAG awareness, especially for US-market consumer sites
  • Comfortable in a git/GitHub, PR-based workflow
