Essential Functions:
Business Process Management (BPM)
- Leads the creation and enhancement of complex and enterprise-wide business processes and initiatives, including initiatives that encompass multiple processes that are considered initiatives on their own
- Serves as Business Process Management project leader, including leading the work of team members associated with the project and delegates assignments to the BPM team as appropriate. Leads team members outside of Business Process Management in what their responsibilities are in conjunction to process improvement, and helps teams by resolving impediments that interrupt the flow of services
- Analyzes new and existing processes. Identifies and designs potential process, system changes, or workflow changes to support the needs of all impacted stakeholders and/or teams
- Collaborates with all stakeholders and teams to develop the needed process enhancements, supporting system functionality, and workflows
- Meets with stakeholders to gain support on future initiatives and ensure buy-in
- Initiates deployment of changes and monitors status after implementation to ensure changes are operating as intended
- Monitors business process performance of assigned projects after implementation, such as resource utilization, workload efficiency, service standards, and business expenses with the process owners or independently to present to leaders when a process owner is unavailable
- Maps relationships and dependencies between processes and sub-processes across functional areas, clearly identifying the hand-offs
- Develops metrics to demonstrate weaknesses or strengths of current processes and makes recommendations for improvements
- Leads and serves as a subject matter expert in the review of their assigned departments and/or initiatives to confirm they are still using best practices for business process improvements as defined by the BPM department. Works with assigned department/initiative to improve their understanding of process improvement and help them to follow the set guidelines and best practices. Serves as a technical resource to Business Process Specialists to review their own departments and initiatives as appropriate
- Recommends any changes needed to help guide the organization in advancing the BPM discipline maturity from initial stages to adherence and towards BPM center for enablement to people leader and collaborates with people leader on solutions
- Leads the development and maturation of the functional decomposition framework for assigned processes. Ensures comprehensive categorization and continuous improvement of processes
Stakeholder Management, Strategy and Execution Support
- Builds and maintains relationships with EMC stakeholders
- Proactively communicates the status of the efforts with stakeholders, especially senior leadership of the business area
- Contacts and visits assigned teams and stakeholders regularly to discuss business processes and supporting workflows
- Collects feedback, recommends improvements, and, and implements approved changes
- Serves as a business partner in identifying and suggesting effective changes in business processes to support business vision, objectives, and strategies
- Presents ideas to executive-level leaders for support and/or collaborates with other team members on presenting to executive-level leaders
- Serves as the subject matter expert to team by collaborating with team members as issues and concerns arise, and provides recommendations and resolution advice. Provides context and teaches team members about different departments in the organization and how they relate to each other and Business Process Management as appropriate
- Develops organization-wide strategies for process optimization and ensures consistency in process design by reviewing workflows and automations already implemented and entered into the Process Management tool. Reviews with leadership to confirm the areas being worked are being prioritized correctly by value brought to EMC through either time, quality, cost or productivity gains
- Collaborates with people leader on the BPM department vision and roadmap, including building and managing product backlog, and developing a prioritization strategy that maximizes the value being delivered
- Drives innovation in BPM practices and continuous improvement at the organizational level by researching new methodologies and bringing new and/or unique ideas on process improvement to BPM leadership. Implements approved solutions in the departments that are utilizing process owners or citizen process developers to continue to improve the departments efficiencies
Prioritization, Transparency, Data & Analytics:
- Tracks projects in Jira to provide details and status of processes and/or workflow projects to keep the Business Process Management (BPM) team informed
- Listens to team members opinions and facts to prioritize the BPM backlog with people leader
- Supports team members in the analysis, design, and development of their projects
- Collaborates with team members on projects that span across areas of responsibility
- Serves as a subject matter expert to team on meaningful metrics, dashboards, reports, and KPIs development
- Works with Strategic Analytics and/or other departments to develop metrics to demonstrate weaknesses or strengths of current processes and makes recommendations for improvements.
- Meets regularly with the named process owners to review business process performance after implementation, such as resource utilization, workload efficiency, service standards, business expenses, changes that are needed, and/or any other issues/opportunities
- Collaborates with people leader to review the status and processes of the BPM team projects. Makes recommendations to people leaders for changes to increase team efficiency and effectiveness
- Utilizes metrics, dashboards, reports and KPIs, BPM process mining results, another other data options to provide documentation on the recommendations or information on the updated workflows/processes
Training and Education:
- Serves the organization by increasing awareness and adoption of BPM methodologies, tools, and notations by creating, reviewing, updating and conducting trainings, workshops, and/or lunch and learns for stakeholders, process owners, and/or Citizen Process Consultants in the business process discipline
- Supports the adoption of BPM tools (like GBTECH) at an organizational level, ensuring integration across different departments by providing necessary training and support to process owners or Citizen Process Consultants to continue the process improvement methodology
- Serves as the subject matter expert to team members and stakeholders on various process improvement frameworks such as Six Sigma, and Lean.
- Creates training documentation, lunch and learn programs, and creates any information needed to support the increase in awareness and adoption of BPM methodologies, standards, tools, and notations. Provides training through those creations as well as holding small group trainings and workshops and doing individual training opportunities
- Develops best practices and guardrails for the BPM tool and assesses if the process is operating at peak efficiency or if any changes need to be implemented. When changes are identified, works with the team and process owners to create new best practices or updates guardrails to reflect the changes
- Co-facilitates the Process Owner and Citizen Process Consultants COP with the people leader.
- Provides technical expertise to support process owners in their development
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in insurance, business, logistics, process improvement or related field or equivalent relevant experience
- Ten years of experience in insurance business analysis, process or project management or related experience
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodology
- Business Process Management certification
- Advanced BPM certification preferred (e.g., CBPP, OCEB, Six Sigma Blackbelt, Lean).
- Experience with generative AI and its application in BPM preferred
- Experience with Business Architecture preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of BPM methodologies such as Six Sigma, and Lean, with experience in implementing these at scale
- Excellent knowledge of BPM notations, including designing comprehensive and complex BPMN diagrams and large-scale and cross-functional process modeling
- Excellent knowledge of a wide range of BPM tools, including automation, and AI-enhanced BPM platforms, for comprehensive process management
- Excellent knowledge of workflow modeling, design, and analysis
- Excellent knowledge of property and casualty insurance coverage options, terminology and trends
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
- Excellent ability to develop strong working relationships to achieve shared goals
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent ability to advise, partner, influence and effectively consult with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners
- Excellent ability to identify opportunities for automation, including familiarity with the full cycle automated process discovery and process automation
- Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if driving
The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:
$100,085 - $138,285 or $110,624 - $152,122
A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
