This remote position is based in the Greater Toronto Area and covers Tourism Whistler's conference sales territory across Ontario, Quebec, and Eastern Canada, excluding the Ottawa and Montreal markets. Regular travel throughout the sales territory is expected, along with periodic travel to Whistler for onboarding, team meetings, client site visits, and industry events.

Starting Salary Range: $70,000–$75,000 annually. This is the annualized starting salary range for this position and may vary based on internal equity and the successful candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. As this is a 9–12 month contract, actual earnings will be prorated based on the length of the contract. In addition to base salary and benefits, this position is eligible to participate in Tourism Whistler's sales incentive program.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Conference Sales, the Conference Sales Manager supports the fulfillment of Tourism Whistler’s goals and objectives through the proactive selling of new group business with prospective clients and the building of relationships with existing clients. 

The primary responsibility of this role is to generate room nights for the resort while expanding and strengthening Tourism Whistler's client base. Through exceptional communication, relationship-building, initiative, and a passion for the meetings and events industry, the Conference Sales Manager delivers outstanding service and creates memorable experiences for clients and partners.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Act as a Tourism Whistler ambassador, living our purpose and vision with passion & energy, achievement and respect.
  • Achieve established sales targets within allocated budgets.
  • Proactively identify new sales opportunities by researching, qualifying, proposing, following up on, and closing group business.
  • Conduct sales presentations and regular in-market visits with prospective clients, existing customers, travel partners, and industry contacts.
  • Arrange and host in-market sales missions, client events, and familiarization tours in partnership with Tourism Whistler members and industry partners.
  • Represent Tourism Whistler at trade shows, conferences, and industry events while following up on all sales opportunities generated.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, including Destination Vancouver and Destination Canada, to leverage collaborative sales opportunities.
  • Maintain an effective and accurate and up-to-date client and account database.
  • Serve as a member liaison to build and maintain productive relationships with Tourism Whistler members and industry partners.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively, build strong relationships, and positively represent Tourism Whistler with clients, members, industry partners, and colleagues.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a hotel, destination marketing organization (DMO), or related sales management role.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Proven success developing new business and achieving sales targets.
  • Knowledge of the travel, tourism, and meetings industry.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the sales territory and periodically to Whistler for onboarding, team meetings, client familiarization tours (FAMs), site visits, and industry events.

Additional Experience We Value

  • Experience selling a conference centre or meeting/event space. 
  • Strong knowledge of Whistler and Tourism Whistler's partners.
  • Knowledge of Amadeus (formerly Delphi).
