Position Overview:

We are expanding our Specialized Claims organization and are seeking experienced professionals to join our Major Case Unit. These Fully Remote positions offer a competitive salary range of 105,000165,000 depending on experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated ability to manage highexposure, complex claims. We have multiple openings and are considering candidates across several seniority levels.

We are evaluating candidates for the following levels based on experience, technical capability, and litigation management skills:

  • Major Case Consultant — For seasoned adjusters with strong technical knowledge and experience handling complex, highseverity claims.
  • Senior Major Case Consultant — For experts with extensive litigation oversight, negotiation strategy, and exposure evaluation experience.

We are looking for senior-level claims professionals with a track record of managing the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of claims that represent the largest exposures to the company.  Most of our claims involve the management of intricate coverage issues and complex multi-party litigation. 

The position requires a high level of technical expertise and collaboration with professionals across various disciplines, including defense attorneys, experts, underwriters and agents.

Specialized claims handled in this role include the following:

  • Large casualty exposures valued at more than $1M.
  • Molestation and sexual offenses.
  • Personal and advertising injuries.
  • Toxic tort, asbestos, and environmental exposures.
  • Healthcare and human service professional liability exposures.
  • New York Labor Law claims.
  • Cyber and data breach claims.
  • E&S claims.
  • Program and TPA-involved claims.
  • Construction defect claims.
  • Discrimination claims.

In this role you will:

  • Independently lead complex case investigations and negotiate high-value claims.
  • Analyze coverage, liability, and financial exposure, and demonstrate mastery in reserving strategy and financial acumen.
  • Manage litigation strategy and develop tailored resolution strategies in conjunction with top-flight defense counsel.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) across the claim organization to support the development of other claim professionals through direct mentoring and by modeling ideal adjusting techniques.
  • Evaluate training programs and recommend improvements.
  • Provide relevant reporting to underwriting and reinsurance and collaborate with underwriting, agents, vendors, and legal teams to improve policy language and refine underwriting risk selection.
  • Streamline workflows and correct inconsistencies.
  • Contribute to special projects.
  • Attend industry events and continuing education seminars to stay current on best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners.

What you need to apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience accepted. JD preferred or equivalent legal/claims experience. Industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience handling highly complex, high-value claims with significant legal, financial, and reputational exposure.
  • Recognized authority in negotiation and resolution of complex claims.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing policy coverage, legal liability, and regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions.
  • Proven ability to manage litigation strategy and direct counsel.
  • Experience mentoring others and contributing to the development of claims handling standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to simplify complex information and handle sensitive issues with professionalism.
  • Ability to draft clear, factual, and objective work product without opinion.
  • Skilled in selecting appropriate communication channels and demonstrating empathy across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to manage complex workflows and competing priorities.
  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment and the ability to make informed decisions independently.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to manage a high volume of work is often necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Required to work on-site as needed.
  • May be required to maintain a reliable, high-speed home internet connection for remote work.
  • Ability to work extended hours as business demands require, including evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary for business purposes.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Proficient in using a personal computer and standard office equipment.

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
