Role Summary

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will set the technical direction for our cloud-native platform across multiple teams, ensuring our most critical systems are reliable, secure, and built to scale. You will partner with Product, engineering leadership, and clients to shape architectural strategy, resolve the highest-stakes technical trade-offs, and mentor senior engineers across the organization. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape CloudFactory's technical future while contributing to a mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities:

Cross-team architectural leadership

  • Set technical direction and design standards for distributed, cloud-native systems across multiple teams, not just a single service.

Platform reliability at scale

  • Own the reliability, performance, and security posture of the most critical production systems, primarily in Go, at organizational scale.

Engineering standards and tooling

  • Drive the evolution of CI/CD, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code practices across the wider engineering organization.

Operational excellence leadership

  • Define and uphold organization-wide standards for reliability, security, and observability.

Strategic technical trade-offs

  • Lead high-stakes architectural decisions and technical debt strategy that shape multi-quarter roadmaps.

Client and stakeholder partnership

  • Serve as the senior technical voice in complex client engagements, designing solutions and proofs-of-concept for the most demanding integrations.

Mentorship at scale

  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers across teams, elevating engineering practice through code reviews, design docs, and organization-wide technical guidance.

Requirements

Must-have skills (required)

  • 7+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex, distributed software systems at scale.
  • Deep mastery of Go (Golang), with a track record of setting technical standards for idiomatic, concurrent, and performant code across teams.
  • Expert-level cloud-native proficiency (Kubernetes, Terraform/CloudFormation), with experience setting standards at an organizational level.
  • Deep expertise navigating AWS or GCP managed services, networking, and cloud security at scale.
  • Strong track record in distributed systems architecture, including microservices, asynchronous messaging, and data consistency, across multiple teams or systems.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD automation and observability stacks (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus, or ELK), including setting organization-wide practices.
  • Proven ability to lead complex client-facing technical conversations and translate roadmaps for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong track record mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culture across teams.

Academic and professional requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-have skills (preferred)

  • Experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, model evaluation pipelines, and techniques for improving model quality and reliability.

Our current tech stack includes

  • Frontend: JavaScript, React, TypeScript
  • Backend: Go, Python, Ruby on Rails
  • Databases: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, and Postgres
  • Deployment: GitHub Actions
  • Observability: New Relic, Grafana
  • Infrastructure: AWS services, GCP, Azure

Benefits

  • Great Mission and Culture
  • Meaningful Work
  • Market competitive salary
  • Quarterly variable compensation
  • Hybrid Working Model
  • Comprehensive medical cover
  • Group life insurance
  • Personal development and growth opportunities
