As a Lead Engineer - Payments (d/f/m) your responsibilities will include:
  • Architectural Leadership: Define and maintain the technical direction for our backend APIs, services, and checkout experiences. Ensure high performance, scalability, and security while handling large volumes of concurrent transactions.

  • Strategic Execution: Maintain a product-oriented lens on payments and money flows to make sure we build the right way for the future. Navigate incomplete requirements to drive execution to completion, ensuring the platform remains robust as we scale.

  • Team Growth & Mentorship: Foster team productivity and technical growth. Act as a mentor for the engineering team, lead code reviews, and conduct performance reviews to uphold high engineering standards.

  • Hands-on Development: Remain deeply involved in technical implementation, particularly in building our own managed payments platform. Design, develop, and maintain services focused on payment processing, billing, and seamless transaction flows.

  • Collaboration: Serve as the bridge between technical execution and business needs. Lead cross-team collaboration with other engineering teams, product, finance, and customer support teams to resolve payment-related issues, and improve user experience and build new features the right way.

  • Integrations & Compliance: Oversee the integration of third-party payment providers and gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree). Ensure adherence to data security and compliance standards.

What you will need to succeed in this role:
  • Experience: 10 years of total professional experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or management capacity.

  • Domain Expertise: Mandatory hands-on experience in payments, e-commerce, billing systems, or checkout flows. You understand the nuances of financial data and handling sensitive payment information.

  • Technical Proficiency: A strong foundation in backend development and API design principles as well as experience in web/full-stack development. While we use Go and TypeScript, we value engineers who can adapt quickly to our stack.

  • System Knowledge: Solid understanding of databases (NoSQL or SQL), caching mechanisms, message queues, and cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Leadership Style: A "bar-raiser" mentality: proactive, self-driven, and focused on ownership. Excellent communication and social skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments. Able to work with a senior team, supporting them in their growth.

  • Nice-to-Have: Experience with subscription billing platforms and a deep understanding of financial ledger systems.
