AI Summary

Manage online community engagement and mentorship program operations to foster member belonging. Coordinate with volunteer moderators and external vendors to optimize system functionality and member experience.

A Week in the Life

You begin your week inside the data, reviewing engagement metrics from the online community platform, identifying patterns in participation, unanswered member needs, and opportunities to improve how members are interacting with content, volunteers, and one another.

From there, your attention shifts into operational execution. You’re coordinating with volunteer moderators to ensure community guidelines are clear, engagement is consistent, and issues are addressed quickly and thoughtfully. You’re not managing from a distance, you are actively inside the system, adjusting how it works in real time.

Midweek, you’re deep in mentorship program operations. You’re reviewing onboarding flows, supporting mentor and mentee matching, troubleshooting participant issues, refining communications, and adjusting program mechanics based on feedback. You understand that small operational friction points can have a large impact on relationship-building at scale.

You also manage the educational abstract and submission process, ensuring timelines are met, submissions are processed correctly, reviewers are supported, and participants have a clear and accessible experience from start to finish.

Throughout the week, you’re collaborating across departments to identify how existing work (events, programs, education, or volunteer initiatives) can be translated into engaging moments for members. You are constantly asking how systems, not just content, create belonging.

You also engage with external platform partners and vendors, testing functionality, identifying system gaps, and advocating for improvements that strengthen usability, accessibility, and member experience.

No two weeks are identical, but the rhythm is consistent: operate the systems, improve the systems, and ensure members feel the difference.

You Would Thrive in This Position If

  • You bring at least two years of professional experience in member engagement, volunteer engagement, program coordination, community management, association management, nonprofit operations, or a related field, along with a bachelor's degree in a relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • You have experience supporting online communities, volunteer programs, educational programs, member services, or engagement initiatives, and you bring demonstrated experience utilizing technology platforms, databases, community platforms, CRM systems, or learning management systems to support program administration and participant engagement.
  • You have experience coordinating multiple projects or operational activities simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high degree of attention to detail, and you bring a demonstrated ability to analyze information, solve problems, and provide high-quality service in a member- or customer-focused environment.
  • You are energized by execution and prefer being close to the operational details rather than removed from them. You take ownership seriously: when systems break or members experience friction, you move toward the issue and hold yourself accountable for the outcome.
  • You understand that process design is experience design. You notice where small operational friction points create frustration and where thoughtful adjustments can create connection, trust, and belonging at scale.
  • You are comfortable working in environments where not everything is fully defined and where part of your role is helping shape and improve the system itself. You adapt quickly to evolving platforms and workflows and are energized rather than discouraged by change.
  • Experience administering online community platforms, supporting mentorship or recognition programs, coordinating educational abstract or submission processes, or collecting and reporting engagement and participation data is a meaningful plus, as is experience within a professional association, membership organization, or healthcare environment.
