The Opportunity
Telex is seeking a Distribution Field Technician to support distribution voltage regulator and distribution control work in the Kansas City Metro and SE Kansas areas. This is a full-time, remote-based field position covering the Kansas City Metro and SE Kansas region.
What You'll Do
- Install, program, test, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain distribution automation equipment, including voltage regulators and regulator controls, capacitor bank controls, reclosers, and related devices.
- Set and verify regulator control setpoints, including voltage level, bandwidth, time delay, and line drop compensation.
- Perform control replacements and retrofits, including wiring and functional checks.
- Verify SCADA/communications points and maintain accurate field documentation and as-builts.
- Support Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO) program work as client requirements are finalized.
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with distribution voltage regulators, capacitor bank controls, reclosers, or similar distribution automation equipment.
- Experience installing, programming, and commissioning regulator controls (Eaton/Cooper CL-6/CL-7, Beckwith M-6200, SEL-2431, or similar).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting one-lines, control schematics, and wiring diagrams; comfortable redlining as-builts.
- Familiar with SCADA integration and communications checkout (DNP3 point verification, radio/cellular).
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in the field with minimal supervision; valid driver's license and regional travel required.
- Strong safety orientation, including NFPA 70E awareness and familiarity with utility switching/tagging and LOTO procedures.
