AI Summary

Lead the strategic and operational oversight of global chapters and regional networks to enhance community belonging and leadership. Collaborate with cross-functional leaders and volunteer bodies to align regional priorities with organizational goals and improve systemic support models.

A Week in the Life

Your week starts with your leadership team. You begin with one-on-ones with the Chapter Services Manager and Regional Operations Manager to understand emerging themes, operational friction points, and opportunities surfacing across the chapter and regional network. One conversation may focus on a pattern of induction support requests across North America. Another may surface opportunities to evolve how regions support chapter leader development Internationally.

By midweek, your attention shifts into strategy. You are reviewing chapter health indicators, regional performance trends, volunteer engagement patterns, and operational data to identify what the organization should solve next. You are not looking for isolated fixes, you are identifying system opportunities. Where should governance evolve? Which support models are no longer serving chapters? What expectations need to be clarified?

Collaboration is constant. You spend time with organizational leaders across Membership, Member Development, Learning & Development, Communications, and executive leadership to ensure chapter and regional priorities align with broader organizational goals. You partner closely with volunteer leaders and governance bodies, translating organizational priorities into models that feel practical and empowering.

Throughout the week, you also remain close enough to operations to understand reality. You join calls with high-profile volunteer leaders, review escalation trends, and help remove barriers that prevent teams from doing their best work. You know when to stay strategic and when to get into the details long enough to understand what needs to change.

By Friday, you are thinking forward. You document emerging themes, shape future priorities, and ensure the organization is continuously improving how it supports belonging, leadership, and community at scale.

This is work for someone energized by complexity, motivated by impact, and excited by building systems that help people do meaningful work together.

You Would Thrive in This Position If

  • You bring seven or more years of progressively responsible experience leading chapter, membership, volunteer, regional, or field-based programs within an association, nonprofit, higher education institution, healthcare organization, or similar environment, along with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience. A master's degree or CAE credential is a meaningful plus.
  • You have demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scale operational, governance, or engagement frameworks across multiple geographic locations, chapters, affiliates, or regions, and you understand how to create consistency without removing the local flexibility that makes communities work.
  • You have demonstrated experience leading organizational initiatives that require strategic planning, change management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration, and you bring experience analyzing organizational performance data to identify trends and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
  • You have experience working with volunteer leaders, boards, committees, councils, or governance bodies, and a demonstrated ability to build consensus and influence across diverse stakeholder groups without relying solely on direct authority. Experience within a global membership association, professional society, or healthcare organization is a meaningful plus.
  • You are an experienced people leader who can move fluidly between strategic and operational levels. You know when to stay in the big picture and when to get close enough to operations to understand what actually needs to change, and you lead managers and teams in a way that builds capability, not dependency.
  • You are highly organized and comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity simultaneously. You can absorb information quickly, identify systemic patterns, and translate competing priorities into clear and actionable direction for the teams and stakeholders you serve.
  • You are energized by building. You see legacy structures not as constraints but as starting points, and you bring the vision, patience, and collaborative instincts to help an organization evolve its chapter and regional ecosystem into something stronger, more sustainable, and more human.
