Overview:

M&T Bank is seeking a seasoned and strategic leader to serve as Head of Liquidity Product Management within our Commercial Banking organization. This role is responsible for shaping and executing the bank’s liquidity product strategy across commercial, corporate, and institutional clients, driving growth in core deposits while delivering best-in-class treasury solutions.

As a key leader within Treasury Management, this individual will partner closely with Relationship Managers, Treasury Sales, CPLS Pricing, IT, Operations, Finance, and Risk to optimize M&T’s deposit franchise, enhance client experience, and support disciplined balance sheet growth. The role emphasizes M&T’s relationship-first culture, prudent risk management, and long-term value creation.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Liquidity Product Strategy & Franchise Growth

  • Define and execute a forward-looking liquidity and deposit product strategy aligned with M&T’s balance sheet objectives and relationship banking model
  • Deliver capabilities that drive growth in core operating deposits across middle market, commercial, and large corporate segments
  • Develop differentiated value propositions to deepen client relationships and increase share of wallet

2. Product Ownership & Lifecycle Management

  • Lead end-to-end management of liquidity products including:
  • Commercial deposits (DDA, MMDA)
  • Sweep solutions
  • Virtual accounts and escrow
  • Cash concentration and account structures
  • Continuously enhance product offerings to meet evolving client needs while maintaining operational simplicity and risk discipline
  • Prioritize product investments aligned with client value and return on capital

3. Pricing & Commercial Enablement

  • Support the CPLS Pricing team in establish pricing frameworks that balance client competitiveness with profitability and funding value
  • Equip Treasury Sales and Relationship Managers with tools, insights, and positioning to effectively sell liquidity solutions
  • Partner with Sales Leadership to drive disciplined pricing and consistent client experience

4. Client-Centric Innovation

  • Enhance digital and self-service capabilities within M&T Treasury Center and online banking platforms
  • Develop and execute strategies to leverage API-enabled liquidity solutions through integrations with client ERP and TMS platforms
  • Evaluate and support emerging opportunities (e.g., embedded treasury, digital assets) consistent with M&T’s measured innovation approach

5. Risk, Governance & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure all products adhere to M&T’s strong risk management culture and regulatory expectations
  • Partner closely with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Audit to maintain robust product governance
  • Support regulatory assurance activities for the deposit product portfolio

6. Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of product managers
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and client-focused culture aligned with M&T’s core values
  • Serve as a senior thought leader internally and represent M&T externally on liquidity and deposit trends

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 12 years’ experience in treasury management, liquidity, or commercial payments and/or relevant product line(s), or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 16 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 12 years’ experience in treasury management, liquidity, or commercial payments and/or relevant product line(s).
  • 7 years managerial and/or project management experience in relevant product line(s).
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including cash flow and components of product profitability.
  • Excellent developmental, analytical and research skills. 
  • Extensive network of industry and client contacts on a national scale and extensive market intelligence.
  • Industry-specific knowledge. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated principled leadership skills with sound business ethics. 
  • Dedicated customer service focus. Ability to use expert resources when necessary.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Deep expertise in deposit products, sweep structures, virtual account management (VAM) platforms, integrated 3rd party liquidity or TWS platforms, and other cash management solutions
  • Demonstrated experience managing product P&L and delivering measurable growth outcomes
  • Strong understanding of bank balance sheet dynamics, funding strategy, and interest rate environments
  • Experience working in a relationship-driven regional or super-regional bank environment
  • Familiarity with M&T’s core platforms (or similar treasury and deposit systems)
  • Exposure to real-time payments, API banking, and digital treasury platforms
  • MBA or advanced degree in Finance, Business, or related discipline

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $154,700.00 - $257,900.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role. The specific pay range applicable to you may vary based on your location.
