Data Labeling Specialist (Remote Philippines · Full-time)

About Us

Scalera is an ETH Zurich spin-off building AI-powered procurement software for the €200B+ European construction industry. Our platform automates supplier selection, tender management, and bid evaluation, already processing over CHF 8bn in tender volume for 110+ customers across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.

We’re a small, fast-moving team that works closely with users and applies genuinely new AI techniques to complex, real-world problems. We're growing our team and looking for an engineer who's excited about building the infrastructure behind intelligent procurement.

The Role

Construction tender documents come in an enormous range of formats — scanned files, complex tables, mixed BKP and NPK standards, no two firms doing it quite the same way. Our extraction handles the great majority of them. Your job is to map the ones at the edges and describe them precisely enough that our engineers can extend the system to cover them.

This is careful, methodical work. You'll spend your day comparing what a document says against what our system understood it to say, and noting every difference you find. The people who thrive in this role tend to be the ones who get a quiet satisfaction from spotting that a quantity reads 5 in the PDF but 6 in the app — that eye for detail is genuinely the core skill here, and it's the thing we value most.

It's worth being upfront about the rhythm: the work is focused and repetitive by nature, and it rewards consistency more than speed. If that sounds like the kind of work you do well, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll do

1. Find tender documents. Search Swiss and German public tender platforms for open invitations to tender in construction. Identify which published packages contain a real bill of quantities (Leistungsverzeichnis) as opposed to checklists, legal documents, or price summaries. Register interest, download the tender package, and locate the correct document inside it.

2. Submit documents for processing. Forward each document into our system so extraction begins, and keep a clean record of what you've submitted.

3. Review the extraction, position by position. For each processed document, check every line item that carries a quantity. Confirm the position number is correct and not duplicated, the quantity matches the source document, and the unit of measure is right. Watch particularly for positions our system missed entirely, positions that split across a page break, and sub-positions that carry their own quantity and must be counted separately.

4. Report what's broken. Document each failure with the page number and a screenshot, and a one-line description of what went wrong. These reports are the direct input our engineering team uses to improve the product — the clarity of your reporting is the value you add.

What we're looking for

  • Exceptional attention to detail, sustained over a full workday. This is the single most important requirement. The work is repetitive and the errors you're looking for are small.

  • Comfort working with German-language documents. You do not need to speak German. You do need to be willing to learn roughly 30–50 recurring construction and document terms, and to work confidently in a German-language web interface using translation tools where needed.

  • Solid written English for reporting issues to an engineering team in Europe.

  • Basic technical confidence: navigating web applications, handling ZIP archives and PDFs, taking and annotating screenshots, using Slack.

  • A reliable setup: stable internet, a working backup plan for power or connectivity interruptions, and a quiet place to concentrate.

  • A daily overlap with our European working hours. Start your day no later than 2pm Philippine time, which gives us 8am–11am CET together. Questions get answered the same day; the rest of your day is worked independently.

  • The temperament for structured remote work — you'll be given a process and clear targets, and trusted to follow them without close supervision.

Nice to have

  • Experience working remotely with European companies or teams

  • Background in construction, quantity surveying, architecture, or engineering

  • Prior QA, data annotation, bookkeeping, or audit experience

What we offer

  • A permanent, open-ended role — we are building a team, not filling a short gap

  • USD 800 per month, full-time

  • Direct impact on a product where your findings are visibly fixed

  • Training on the full process, and a documented workflow to work from

  • Room to grow as the QA function expands
