      OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

The Adjunct faculty member is responsible for facilitating online nursing courses that meet the quality and standards set forth by the accrediting bodies and American Sentinel College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Post University under the guidance of the Program Chair /Assistant /Associate Dean and the Dean of the Nursing Programs.

 

    ORGANIZATIONAL DIMENSIONS OF JOB: 

This position works with the Program Chair/Assistant/Associate Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Programs and the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Programs to maintain curriculum integrity, promote optimum learning opportunities for students, and foster a rich online environment for the students.


      JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Education: Doctoral degree in public health or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred; a master’s degree in public health or a related field appropriate to the assigned teaching discipline is required.
  2. Academic and Subject-Matter Preparation: Academic preparation, professional experience, and demonstrated subject-matter expertise must be appropriate to the course(s) assigned.
  3. Professional Experience: Relevant professional experience in public health, population health, healthcare, community health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and management, environmental health, social and behavioral sciences, or other related public health disciplines is preferred.
  4. Teaching Experience: Experience teaching in a college or university setting, including online and/or competency-based education, is preferred.
  5. Scholarly and Professional Engagement: Faculty are expected to demonstrate the preparation and promise of scholarly and/or professional work as described in the faculty section of the Faculty Handbook.
  6. Licensure and Certification: Professional licensure or certification is required when applicable to the faculty member’s discipline or assigned teaching responsibilities. 

 

 

   Key FACULTY Requirements:


General Requirements 


  1. Provide all necessary documentation (curricula vitae, official transcripts, etc.) to support teaching credentials. 
  2. Have complete familiarity with American Sentinel academic policies. 
  3. Review and abide by the Faculty Handbook. 
  4. Actively participate in regular American Sentinel faculty meetings and other governance activities when available. 
  5. Actively participate in American Sentinel or other faculty training programs when requested. 
  6. Provide updates to curriculum vitae and other photographic, video, or textual biographical material and agree to their use on American Sentinel websites and other public materials. 
  7. Provide copies of any licenses or certifications annually (or when renewed). 
  8. Provide regular updates to American Sentinel about other teaching assignments, research and publications, professional development, or academic activities. 
  9. Provide advice to American Sentinel, where appropriate, on general policies and programs for improvement of student outcomes and school programs. 
  10. Grade student assignments within 96 hours of the due date. 
  11. Grade all assignments in the order they are required by the course. 
  12. Participate in weekly discussion forums, post questions, and respond to student posts to engender debate and reflection on course concepts.

  • American Sentinel students are employed, and we can never be sure when they will have time to do their next assignment. If they have to wait for a previous assignment to be graded, they are handicapped. 
  • American Sentinel is service-oriented and stands by its commitments. 
  • American Sentinel derives revenue when students complete assignments and course(s) on time and adhere to program completion goals. 


Individual Course(s) Teaching Requirements 


  1. Review the course syllabus and notify American Sentinel of any necessary corrections/updates. 
  2. Send a welcome message to students, using the first Discussion Forum, at least 3 days before the course start date. 
  3. Respond to student inquiries with a maximum response time of 24 hours during the week and 48 hours on weekends. 
  4. Grade student assignments following the general requirements described above. 
  5. Participate in weekly discussion forums, post questions, and respond to students’ posts to engender debate and reflection on course concepts. 
  6. Monitor and respond to student “posts” to discussion forums at least four times per module and question or as required by the course. 
  7. Mark all assignments, deliverables, class participation, and professor-graded exams and submit such grades to American Sentinel College within 96 hours. Final exams/projects must be graded and returned to American Sentinel College within one week of receipt of the exams/projects. 
  8. Follow the American Sentinel grade appeal process if a student submits a complaint. 
  9. Any additional duties assigned by the Program Chair/Assistant Dean/Dean.
