Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Department of Educational Leadership and Human Services at Saint Joseph’s University invites applications for an Adjunct Professor in Counseling (both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling). Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct 1 or 2 courses each semester on an “as needed” basis. This is an online only program with online only teaching possibilities. Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) offers a wide variety of bachelor's, master's, doctoral, associate and certificate programs. With a commitment to personalized attention through a low faculty to student ratio, SJU may call on the expertise of adjunct instructors to complement the work of full-time faculty across all of its colleges and schools.

SJU appoints part-time, non-tenure track adjunct instructors on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Re-appointment is based on university need, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance. Applicants for these positions are screened on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the department chair. Compensation for adjunct instructors is commensurate with educational credentials, professional, experience and instructional background. Adjunct instructors are bound to the terms and conditions of employment at Saint Joseph’s University, including but not limited to the Faculty Handbook. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to students

  • Instruct an assigned course providing syllabi and other instructional materials

  • Use of university learning management systems to deliver instruction

  • Adjunct/affiliate faculty are expected to teach a specified online or face to face course(s)

  • Prepare course materials; provide support and guidance to students; and report grades.

Minimum Requirements

  • Required qualifications include a doctoral Degree in counseling or closely related majors or a master’s degree and unique or outstanding expertise in counseling.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • May require standing for long periods of time

  • May require talking for long periods of time

  • May require carrying course materials

  • Fully online OR In-person only
