Senior Engineer

We are seeking a versatile and driven Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and enhance scalable software solutions across backend server environments and Android mobile platforms. In this role, you will leverage technologies including Java, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, SQL, Linux, Git, and Gradle to create high-performing, flexible, and user-focused applications.  In this role, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, Lead Developers, and Software Development leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, contributing to solution design, development, testing, code reviews, deployment, and continuous improvement efforts. This position offers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges while building reliable, scalable solutions that support critical business initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions for both server-side and Android-based applications.
• Collaborate with business partners, Lead Developers, and the Director of Software Development to define requirements and deliver new products and features.
• Develop and maintain applications using Java, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, SQL, Linux, Git, and Gradle.
• Build and support Android applications using Android Studio and modern Android development frameworks.
• Participate in requirements gathering, technical design discussions, and solution planning sessions.
• Perform peer code reviews and contribute to development best practices and coding standards.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize applications to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and user experience.
• Work independently on assigned initiatives while effectively contributing to small, cross-functional development teams.
• Support continuous improvement efforts through testing, code quality enhancements, and process optimization.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Java-based applications in an enterprise environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional Android development experience, including building, maintaining, and deploying mobile applications.
• Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions through strong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in high-volume, transaction-intensive environments where performance, reliability, and scalability are critical.
• Strong proficiency in Java, including object-oriented design principles, multithreading concepts, and enterprise application development.
• Advanced knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), with experience developing interactive web-based user interfaces.
• Strong understanding of Android application architecture, activity and fragment lifecycle management, performance optimization, and mobile development best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Android development tools and frameworks, including Android Studio, Android SDK, and Gradle.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including operating systems, networking, databases, web technologies, and software architecture concepts.
• Strong knowledge of programming fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, control flow, object-oriented programming, and design patterns.
• Experience designing, querying, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases using SQL and JDBC, with preference for Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL environments.
• Familiarity with NoSQL database technologies and the ability to analyze and improve database performance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative development environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing software solutions in Linux and macOS environments.
• Working knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and AngularJS.
• Experience developing Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack libraries, and modern architectural patterns such as MVVM and MVI.
• Experience implementing and maintaining Android unit, integration, and UI testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of Java-based frameworks and libraries, including Spring MVC, Spring Data, Hibernate, JDBC, Redis, and Drools.
• Experience working with distributed systems and messaging technologies such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with cloud-based and large-scale data technologies, including ScyllaDB, Cassandra, AWS Keyspaces, and Amazon S3.
• Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Understanding of application security principles, cryptography, secure coding practices, and mobile data protection techniques.
• Experience using Git for source control and collaborative software development.
• Exposure to agile software development methodologies and modern DevOps practices.
