Senior Data Vizualisation and Information Design Specialist
PPMI, part of the Verian Group, is a leading European research and policy analysis centre. We help public sector organisations address complex policy challenges by turning evidence into clear, actionable insights.
PPMI is looking for a Senior Data Visualisation and Information Design Specialist to help turn complex research, policy analysis and data into clear, engaging and client-ready visual outputs.
This is not a document formatting or purely graphic design role. We are looking for someone who can understand analytical content, identify the best way to communicate it visually, and propose effective solutions for different audiences.
You will work with researchers, analysts, project managers and communications colleagues to develop high-quality materials for reports, presentations, factsheets, proposals, events and digital dissemination. The role also involves regular work with Word, PowerPoint and document formatting, including improving the structure, clarity and consistency of client-ready deliverables.
Key responsibilities
- Translate complex data, research findings and policy content into clear visual narratives.
- Design charts, infographics, factsheets, report visuals, diagrams and presentation materials.
- Turn analytical briefs, datasets or draft content into structured and visually engaging outputs.
- Advise project teams on the most effective formats for communicating evidence and findings.
- Create polished, client-ready PowerPoint presentations and visual materials.
- Improve the clarity, consistency, formatting and visual impact of reports, proposals and other project deliverables.
- Contribute, where relevant, to digital or web-based outputs such as dashboards, data portals or interactive visualisations.
- Work with Word-based documents and templates, ensuring materials are well structured, clearly formatted and visually consistent.
- Where specialist technical support is needed, help identify the right people or external expertise and define clear requirements for the output.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in data visualisation, information design, data storytelling, research communication, data journalism, BI/reporting or a related field.
- Strong portfolio showing data-driven visual work, such as presentations, factsheets, infographics, report visuals, dashboards, interactive outputs or data stories.
- Ability to interpret data, research findings and analytical content, not only design around predefined text.
- Proven understanding of visual communication principles, including chart choice, hierarchy, layout, accessibility and audience needs.
- Excellent MS PowerPoint and Word skills, with good working knowledge of Excel.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign for polished print and digital outputs.
- Familiarity with tools such as Flourish, Datawrapper or similar for data-driven charts and graphics.
- Strong written and spoken English, including the ability to write clear titles, captions, labels and explanatory text and communicate with clients where needed.
- Ability to work independently from a brief, ask the right questions and propose effective visual solutions.
- Relevant education in information design, data visualisation, visual communication, data science, statistics, social sciences, journalism, UX/UI, graphic design or a related field.
Nice to have
- Experience in public policy, social research, evaluation, EU projects, open data, consulting or international organisations.
- Experience with interactive visualisations, dashboards, data portals or web-based information products.
- Familiarity with CMS environments such as Drupal, web publishing standards or WCAG accessibility requirements.
- Experience with D3.js, JavaScript-based visualisation libraries or collaboration with developers on interactive outputs.
- Experience with Canva or similar tools.
What we offer
- Gross monthly salary of €3,000–€3,600, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Meaningful work on public policy and research projects across Europe and internationally.
- A role with real influence on how PPMI communicates evidence and insights.
- Collaboration with researchers, analysts, project teams and communications colleagues.
- Flexible working arrangements and opportunities for professional development.
