About TIko

Tiko is an African nonprofit committed to strengthening the potential and resilience of adolescent girls across Africa. We address the “Triple Threat” of unintended pregnancy, HIV infection, and sexual and gender-based violence by building local health ecosystems that provide stigma-free, no-cost, quality-assured services.

Our model brings together key local actors: community-based organizations (CBO) with peer mobilisers who act as health companions to girls; public and private health clinics that deliver care; and retail partners that redeem Tiko Miles -our behaviour-change incentive programme that rewards service uptake and feedback.

We invest in partners by strengthening CBO capacity, training frontline workers and providers, supporting clinic quality improvement, and compensating partners based on performance. Our technology platform connects all actors by enabling referrals, verifying service delivery, facilitating payments, and generating real-time data.

For this position, we are happily looking for candidates currently based in Portugal, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria.

The Job

At Tiko, we do not just build applications—we develop a fast-paced, high-impact digital platform that empowers young people across six African markets to access vital sexual and reproductive health services. As our Quality Assurance Engineer based in Portugal, you will be the ultimate guardian of our platform’s reliability. Your code and test cases will ensure that every user path functions flawlessly, from real-time digital nudges and rewards to seamless ecosystem integrations.

This is not a siloed, ticket-checking role. You will embed deeply within an agile engineering team, serving as the champion for a true quality mindset across the entire development lifecycle. Reporting to the engineering lead, you will mix manual precision with advanced test automation to ensure our software scales reliably, helping our global team of over 230 colleagues deliver uninterrupted real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Advocacy & Agile Practices

• Cultivate a Quality Mindset: Own the QA standards and processes for your team, acting as an internal mentor to ensure engineers treat quality as a shared, proactive responsibility rather than an afterthought.
• Agile Rituals & Optimization: Actively participate in sprint ceremonies, continuously auditing team workflows and suggesting iterative improvements to our testing delivery pipelines.
• Clear Documentation: Architect and maintain clean, easily digestible test documentation and compliance logs that future-proof our engineering knowledge base.

Technical Testing & Automation

• End-to-End Execution: Design, build, and maintain both manual exploratory tests and automated test suites that safeguard our core platform features.
• Tooling & Framework Implementation: Refine and expand our automated testing frameworks, leveraging modern tools to accelerate regression testing and continuous integration.
• Defect Analysis & Feedback Loops: Analyse test results and communicate complex technical findings to developers in a clear, constructive manner that upskills future code quality.

About You

You are a highly analytical self-starter who knows exactly how to navigate ambiguity and take initiative without waiting for direction. You thrive on peer-to-peer collaboration, balancing a sharp eye for edge cases with a supportive, growth-oriented attitude. You do not just spot a bug—you have the technical curiosity to investigate why it happened and the diplomatic wit to help your team fix it. You value impact-driven tech and want to see your skills directly benefit end users on the ground.

Requirements

• Experience Profile: 3+ years of professional experience operating as a QA Software Engineer within fast-paced, agile product environments.
• Automation Mastery: Proven experience implementing automated testing tools and expanding robust testing frameworks from scr - atch.
• The Tiko Tech Stack: Hand-on experience with JavaScript, Playwright, and Postman is highly advantageous.
• Test Architecture: A track record of creating detailed, well-structured test plans and complex data-driven test cases.
• Communication & Location: Fluent in English with the ability to bridge communication gaps between technical engineers and non-technical stakeholders. 

Compensation & Benefits

The gross monthly salary brackets for this position are:

South Africa: R44,977 - R67,465

Kenya: Ksh235,930 - Ksh353,895
Uganda: UGX5,773,709 - UGX8,660,564
Ethiopia: €1,710 - €2,565
Nigeria: ₦2,073,991 - ₦3,110,986

Portugal: €2,165 - €3,248
