Job Description

Overview:
Lifeway is hiring a Web Developer to join our eBook Development team. In this role, you will use your development skills to convert the division's publishing content into multiple eBook formats, such as EPUB, MOBI, PRC, or PDF, through the development of and use of templates, scripting, and automation. The Web Developer - eBooks oversees structural tagging schemas consistent with other publishing components and business needs, and collaborates on the development of publishing file structures, systems and repository requirements.

This role is fully remote in the U.S with quarterly travel to Nashville for in-person team gatherings.

Responsibilities:
As a Web Developer on our eBook Development team you will:

Administer and monitor the application of mark-up coding languages to content production files via the heavy use of scripting and hand-coding to meet quality and coding language standards - HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, OSA, GREP, and other automation tools

Meet approved production schedules and processes while ensuring that products meet industry and corporate quality standards

Stay current in new technologies and improve skills related to trade publishing

Recommend new applications, processes, and training that could help gain process efficiencies

Work with eBook developers, metadata specialists, and publishing staff in troubleshooting content, workflow and digital content coding best practices

Collaborate within the team to fulfill the LifeWay's mission, values, and strategy for digital content

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or Multimedia, preferredRelated work experience may be considered to fulfill education requirement

2 years experience with web development, Internet protocols (i.e. http, ftp), information and document management software

2 years exeperience with coding / markup languages such as XML, CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, and GREP

Graphic design and typography skills with attention to detail in managing multiple products, formats, and deadlines

Experience with publishing processes and trends - desktop, mobile, web - and current authoring systems and standards such as Adobe Creative Suite, XML / HTML Editors, and ePub 3

Demonstrated project management and problem solving experience

Strong understanding of electronic publishing protocols and technology, knowledge of the publishing industry, and general understanding of copyright law
