We’re looking for a Vision Systems Engineer (aka The Precision Visionary) to develop and implement vision systems that empower robotics, manufacturing, and automation applications.
As a Vision Systems Engineer at our client, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to design, calibrate, and integrate advanced vision solutions, from object detection to quality inspection. Your expertise in cameras, lighting, optics, and image processing will be key in creating reliable vision systems that operate effectively in diverse conditions and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Develop Vision Systems for Automation and Robotics:
- Create and implement vision algorithms for tasks such as object recognition, defect detection, and part positioning. You’ll work with high-resolution cameras, optical components, and lighting to achieve the desired visual accuracy.
- Calibrate and Optimize Camera and Sensor Settings:
- Calibrate cameras and sensors to ensure high accuracy, repeatability, and reliability under various environmental conditions. You’ll optimize settings for lighting, exposure, focus, and resolution to enhance image clarity and data accuracy.
- Integrate Vision Systems into Robotics and Automation Platforms:
- Collaborate with software and robotics teams to integrate vision systems with robotic arms, conveyors, and other automation platforms. You’ll ensure seamless data flow and compatibility with control systems and machine interfaces.
- Develop and Implement Image Processing Algorithms:
- Design and refine image processing algorithms to analyze captured images, extract features, and make real-time decisions. You’ll use tools and libraries like OpenCV and TensorFlow to optimize image analysis performance.
- Test and Validate Vision System Performance:
- Conduct tests and performance evaluations in both lab and field environments. You’ll assess accuracy, processing speed, and reliability to ensure that vision systems meet operational standards.
- Collaborate on Vision-Based Quality Control and Inspection:
- Work with manufacturing and quality teams to implement vision systems for defect detection, quality assurance, and process control. You’ll ensure that systems can reliably detect issues and maintain high production standards.
- Stay Updated on Vision Technology and Machine Vision Trends:
- Continuously research advancements in cameras, optics, lighting, and vision algorithms. You’ll bring new ideas and technologies to the team, ensuring the vision systems remain cutting-edge.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Image Processing and Computer Vision Expertise: Strong experience with image processing algorithms, object detection, and pattern recognition. Proficiency with tools like OpenCV, TensorFlow, or similar libraries.
- Camera and Optics Knowledge: Familiarity with industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, and optical calibration. Understanding of how to adjust optics for various environmental and operational requirements.
- Programming Skills in Python, C++, or MATLAB: Proficiency in programming languages for vision system development and algorithm optimization.
- Hands-On Calibration and Troubleshooting: Ability to perform camera calibration, fine-tune lighting, and troubleshoot vision system issues in real-world environments.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills for achieving high accuracy and reliability in vision systems.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field. Equivalent experience in vision systems engineering may be considered.
- Certifications or specialized training in machine vision or image processing are advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in vision systems engineering or a related field, with a focus on robotics, manufacturing, or automation applications.
- Experience with machine vision cameras and hardware (e.g., Basler, FLIR) and familiarity with industrial protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus) is beneficial.
- Familiarity with deep learning for vision applications is a plus.
