This individual will collaborate with financial underwriting, case installation and sales teams. They will develop knowledge as a subject matter expert in Medical Underwriting.You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities: Evaluate and analyze enrollment materials, medical evidence and detailed medical information to determine appropriate underwriting action for small group business Conduct telephone interviews with applicants to obtain details or clarification of health status Independently determine and adjust rates, and set prices for potential new groups Document in detail the actions taken on groups reviewed Communicate decisions to the Health Plan Independently completes new business case load assignment on a timely basis and make decisions appropriate to the risk present Respond to internal and external customer inquiries Build and maintain relationships with Financial Underwriting and Health Plan contacts and stay current with site specific developments and practices Keep team members, management, health plans and other appropriate parties informed of pertinent changes and/or issues Maintain organization of cases and files in order to simplify the review process Complete additional assignments and tasks that may vary outside of the scope of the underwriting process You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or High School / GED with 2+ years of experience in Medical Underwriting Preferred Qualifications: Other Managed Care Underwriting Experience (medical / ancillary etc.) Background in nursing or related field Work or education experience demonstrating analytical and critical thinking skills Beginner Level of proficiency with MS Excel Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing UnitedHealth Group requires all new hires and employees to report their COVID-19 vaccination status.Careers at UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual.
