Job Description

We hire and retain the industry's brightest and most capable mortgage professionals.PurposeReviews, evaluates, and recommends approval or denial of mortgage loans applications, in compliance with company policy, and all applicable federal and state regulations. Acts as a mentor for Underwriter I position. Evaluates acceptability of loan to investors and recommends approval or rejection of the loanapplication in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk. Performs a variety of more complex tasks. Assembles loan files.Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesReviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if borrower, property, and loan conditions meet company and government standards.Evaluates acceptability of loan to investors.Recommends approval or rejection of loan applications.If recommending rejection, escalates loan for a second review.Communicates decisions to loan officers and processors.Assembles documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial, and moves loan to closing.Train and develop the skills and abilities of Underwriter I.Performs other job related duties as assigned.Other Functions & ResponsibilitiesEnsures that company, federal, and state requirements are met throughout the underwriting process.Maintains a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for all customers.Completes all tasks accurately with zero errors, within established company timeframes.Meets minimum production points.Satisfactory quality feedback most recent 6 months.Credit Authority Manager and Underwriting Manager recommendation.2 Hours per quarter UW Continuing Education;Min 1 hour self-employed income each yearMin 30 minutes every 6 months for housing programs (if UW is certified)Remaining hours as determined by Underwriting ManagerSee authority level matrix below:Level 1 -Prior Processing or UW experience min. of 2 years (no DE)Progressing toward DELevel 2-Level 1 requirements metDE for 1 yearProficient at Conv Conforming loansProgressing toward VAJob QualificationsExperience1-2 years' experience as an underwriter required; DE for minimum of 1 yearEducationHigh School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesCourtesy, customer service, and tact are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.Other SkillsBasic word processing and computer skills are required. 10-Key preferred.Physical RequirementsRequires effective communication with customers and/or other employees using common telecommunications equipment and computer equipment. Must be able to read, examine, and organize documents. May require the ability to sit, stand, and walk around for extended periods of time. May also require the ability to lift up to 25pounds.Work EnvironmentPosition will often be in a busy office environment. The ability to multitask and focus in this environment is essential.
