Job Summary

The Trade Consultant II provides intermediate‑to‑advanced advisory services to clients on international trade compliance and CBSA requirements.  This role applies hands‑on knowledge of customs brokerage operations and CBSA systems, including brokerage automation, to assist clients with regulatory obligations, document management, and audit readiness. The consultant supports process optimization and system‑enabled solutions while serving as a trusted business partner to clients and internal stakeholders.  The Trade Consultant will work with our customers on their CBSA verification audits while adhering to the CBSA timelines.  Work on projects within the specific timeframes such as a customer classification project.

Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent/ Remote

Workdays: Monday to Friday(must be able to work ALL 5 days of the week)

Shift Hours (must be able to work a minimum of 40 hrs. per week). 

• 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Shift Duration: 8 hours a day (requires flexibility with Start and Finish times). 

Work Location: Remote (Based in/near 1221 32nd Avenue, Lachine, QC H8T 3H2, Canada)

Salary: $23.70 per hour

Key Responsibilities

Trade Consulting & Client Advisory

  • Provide trade compliance guidance to clients engaged in international import and export activities.

  • Advise on customs classification, valuation, origin, and preferential trade programs.

  • Support client engagements by identifying compliance gaps and recommending practical improvements.

  • Act as a subject‑matter resource for resolving compliance‑related client issues in coordination with internal teams.

  • Support interactions with customs authorities while maintaining regulatory integrity.

  • Put together reports of like and similar goods to ensure compliance with CBSA verification audits.

  • Charging customers for the work performed and completion of billing for projects. 

CBSA CARM Portal Knowledge & Client Support

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the CBSA CARM Client Portal and its use by importers and brokers.

  • Upload documents for our customers to the CARM Client Portal.

Customs Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Apply regulatory requirements to client operations and brokerage workflows.

  • Assist with preparation of submissions to the post‑entry team, responses to CBSA requests, and supporting documentation packages.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and support updates to procedures and controls as required.

Audits & Verifications

  • Support preparation for CBSA audits and verifications, including documentation review and data validation.

  • Assist in analyzing audit findings and identifying corrective actions.

  • Support maintenance of audit trails and supporting documentation aligned with CBSA expectations.

Brokerage Automation & Process Optimization

  • Apply brokerage operations knowledge to support automation and system‑driven process improvements.

  • Analyze current compliance workflows to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency gains.

  • Collaborate with technology, operations, and compliance teams to ensure regulatory requirements are embedded into system functionality.

  • Use data and reporting to support root‑cause analysis and exception reduction.

Training, Documentation & Change Support

  • Support development and delivery of clients and internal training related to trade compliance

  • Prepare documentation, job aids, and procedural guidance for regulatory and system changes.

  • Assist clients and internal users with adoption of new processes, tools, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (international trade, supply chain, logistics, business, or related field).

  • CCS designation

Experience & Knowledge

  • Practical experience in customs brokerage or trade compliance operations.

  • Working knowledge of CBSA CARM Client Portal navigation and document handling.

  • Familiarity with customs audits, verifications, and regulatory correspondence.

  • Exposure to brokerage automation or systems‑based process improvements is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Bilingualism required: French and English (written and spoken). Strong verbal and written communication skills in French are essential. The role involves regular interactions with clients outside of Quebec (70%). - Required

  • Ability to translate regulatory and system requirements into clear client guidance.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for client‑facing environments.

  • High attention to detail with strong compliance awareness.

  • Ability to operate as an independent contributor in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment.

Technical & Digital Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including:

    • Excel (data analysis, reconciliation, reporting, tracking)

    • Word (procedural documentation, client correspondence)

    • PowerPoint (client presentations, training materials, reporting)

    • Outlook (client and stakeholder communication)

    • Teams / SharePoint (collaboration, document management, version control)

  • Ability to analyze data, track exceptions, and support reporting using spreadsheets and business dashboards.

  • Comfortable working across multiple systems and platforms in a regulated environment.
