About the role

Semgrep seeks a superb Technical Writer to supplement our small but savvy and skilled Technical Writing squad. As part of the marketing team, the technical writing team works closely with the product, support, and other marketing functions to help users secure their software using Semgrep. The team’s work is critical in helping users adopt Semgrep, integrate it into a wide variety of platforms and environments, and engage with software developers using its results.

Location expectations:

  • This role is remote friendly, with minimal travel expected for occasional internal events.

Prior experience in a fast-paced, tech environment is helpful, but we are more interested in your love for the craft of writing and understanding of software development than your pedigree.. So if this opportunity excites you but you don’t meet the exact requirements, apply anyway!

What you’ll do

  • Create technical written material to help users understand and realize the value of Semgrep
  • Write and edit documentation for new or updated Semgrep features in Semgrep’s docs
  • Transform draft content from subject matter experts into digestible, clear, and useful information for users
  • Help maintain, improve, and disseminate our internal technical writing style guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining Semgrep’s open source documentation (based on Docusaurus) and its tooling
  • Understand usage data to inform documentation improvements and roadmap

You are ideal for this role if you have

  • 4+ years in a technical software writing and editing role
  • Superb written communication skills and outstanding grammar skills
  • Experience writing in Markdown and using Git, GitHub, or GitLab for version control management, including using command-line tools
  • Experience in writing docs-as-code and using static site generators
  • A love for enabling, helping, and guiding others to help them do something new
  • Great teaching skills that translate into amazing written work
  • Ability to absorb and understand new information and technologies quickly
  • Previous experience working with software development teams. This need not be an engineering role; support, product, or marketing experience is just as valuable.
  • Experience with at least one programming language (not necessarily in a professional context)
