Summary

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join our team, reporting to the Manager of Technical Program Management in the Product and Technology department. As a Technical Program Manager, you will work across multiple cross-functional teams to deliver impactful, ambitious programs at the Foundation.

We are looking for someone who will become a trusted partner and a key member of our teams for a portfolio of short term projects, who will work across technical and non-technical teams, stakeholders, and the community to deliver outstanding work. This person should foster a shared understanding of goals and commitments across teams and stakeholder groups with different styles and expectations.

You are responsible for:

Facilitating healthy stakeholder groups

• Facilitating dialogue and meetings across engineering teams and stakeholders to support shared understanding of goals, commitments, and desired outcomes
• Supporting healthy group dynamics and a culture that welcomes diverse perspectives
• Promoting a culture of shared values and good faith

Driving projects to completion

• Managing the delivery of projects, coordinating workflows, processes, reporting, documentation and roadmaps
• Ensuring that teams understand their commitments to their goals and to other teams
• Motivating teams to follow through on commitments, deliver outputs, and uphold a culture of accountability

Coordinating commitments and dependencies, within and across teams

• Coordinating sequencing of projects and dependencies and facilitating of shared understanding of timelines across multiple technical and non-technical teams
• Identifying stakeholders and keeping them aware of progress
• Coordinating communications and process between teams and stakeholders
• Surfacing, tracking, and escalating dependencies, risks and blockers as needed

Skills and Experience:

• 2-4 years experience managing multi-stakeholder groups with staff, partner organizations, and volunteers
• Strong knowledge of program management practices, including identifying stakeholders, defining program requirements, crafting schedules and roadmaps, ensuring testing, time-management and forecasting, reporting, and facilitating implementation
• Ability to anticipate risks, resolve conflicts, and initiate escalation paths
• Ability to build rapport and influence with distributed teams representing various cultures, featuring different communication and learning styles
• Ability to build relationships and trust, influence without authority, and effectively enforce accountability

Additionally, we’d love it if you have experience with the following:

• Volunteers and movement organizations (we’d love it even more if you have experience working with Wikimedia communities)
• Project-management tracking tools, such as Asana and Phabricator
• Working in an international organization that has a distributed workforce 
• Working within a movement with strong culture and values
• Working with non-profit organizations

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based in more than 50 countries. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated hourly pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$38 per hour to US$59 per hour with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
