Tax Manager


Position Overview


The Tax Manager will lead of team of preparers and is responsible for overseeing the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of tax returns prepared by supervision of others. Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities




  • Assumes full responsibility for completion of tax returns by team members




  • Determines delegation of preparation to the various tax preparers based on complexity while managing workflow and minimizing backlog




  • Monitors and intervenes in client meetings and tax planning efforts when needed or deemed necessary




  • Acts as a resource for tax preparers/specialists on specific tax issues and/or questions




  • Assumes monitoring of client service being provided by team members




  • Maintains familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members, reviews staff assignments for appropriateness and delegates accordingly




  • Training and development of junior team members in processes and procedures




  • Assume responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete, and timely preparation and delivery of all clients' tax returns




  • Perform technical tax review and approval of tax returns of any complexity as needed





Qualifications and Skills




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting




  • 7+ years of recent public accounting tax experience




  • CPA or Enrolled Agent license




  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, project management, supervisory, client service and PC skills including MS Office & QuickBooks proficiency




  • Ability to professionally lead tax engagements, identify complex accounting issues, and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment




  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks, clients, and projects




  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines simultaneously and excellent attention to detail
