Job Description

SAS is looking for a Healthcare expert with consulting background and proven experience working with or previously working for UnitedHealth Group. Expertise surrounding federal and state policy dynamics and provider experience a plus. Candidate must possess considerable direct experience working with or in UnitedHealth Group (UHG) business units. This candidate will use their UHG knowledge and healthcare experience to effectively navigate & partner with the OPTUM business unit helping to advance joint commercial opportunities leveraging advance SAS analytic solutions and deepen UHG executive relationships. A successful candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to help the OPTUM organizations solve complex data and analytic problems by providing strategic guidance and direction to internal and external stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

Revenue Generation

Develop new business for SAS by working with our customers and analyzing both industry and market trends.

Achieve an individual sales quota. Direct complex sales opportunities including implementation plans, which include the coordination of internal and/or external services.

Engage appropriate partners to create new revenue opportunity and elevate SAS's strategic position in the account.

Open up new consulting & software opportunities that are aligned to OPTUM's strategic goals


Develop a multi-year strategic account plan that articulates their customer's strategic business goals and objectives. Team with SAS colleagues and position them for an effective engagement with the client.

Develop executive level relationships at the EVP and CXO level to understand their goals, strategies and deliver on executive initiatives furthering the partnership between SAS and UHG.

Shape and deliver win-win scenarios for the client that deliver value and effective success measures. Create realistic and worthy expectations.

Manage relationships at multiple levels within the account. Work alongside management on the scheduled cadence of collaborative meetings with key account stakeholders to create, evaluate and direct a collaborative roadmap.

Sales Operations

Maintain accurate revenue forecasts. Apply SAS contractual and pricing policies to a client situation with full appreciation of implications and commercial risk.

Work closely with SAS management team on strategic account development goals, customer relationships, industry programs, product direction, etc.

Performs other duties, as assigned.


Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Marketing, MIS, or other relevant discipline.

Requires a minimum of five years working in healthcare and experience in the sales, marketing of complex solutions (including related training products and services) in large complex organizations (fortune 100 preferred).

Specific industry Healthcare experience working with or for United HealthGroup.

Knowledge of advanced strategic sales techniques; knowledge of software acquisition cycles and buying influences. Has ability to generate new business through strategic-based selling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Has the ability to understand customer challenges and takes a consultative approach to working with the customer

Ability to analyze and evaluate territory dynamics and develop a sales plan; ability to communicate technical and business concepts and relate them to SAS applications and user needs; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Negotiates with an understanding of the decision-making process and communicates the value of the entire solution, services and software.

Comprehends the implications of contractual dialogue and commercial risk as they relate to the software industry.

Understands the industry and UHG with high degree of certainty and can serve as a subject matter expert on industry trends and best practices.

Reframes the client's present and future business and effectively visualizes the desired scenario to both client's and colleagues, alike.

Location: Minneapolis, MN; Washington DC, Chicago, Raleigh NC.

Ability to travel 25%-50% or as the business requires.
