The Job:  

The Senior Manager, Construction Technology Web Applications is a technical leadership role that drives the development of web based digital product initiatives for Power Tools, including the DEWALT brand. This leadership role acts as a player/coach with responsibility over the development of an all new MSUITE cloud-based AWS web application for Construction Technology (ConTech) that assists Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contractor companies in their planning, prefabrication and field installation tasks. The successful candidate will provide technical direction, architecture oversight and software development tasks in building an all-new cloud application to replace an aged system.  The new solution will take advantage of modern application techniques and leverage AI and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies that can be incorporated in the customer-facing solution.  The leader will help drive the use of AI technologies to support rapid product prototyping and development processes.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a hands-on technical leader, you will lead a globally dispersed web development team in designing, building, managing, and maintaining a complex suite of software components to create web applications that deliver exceptional user experiences for MEP Companies managing the planning, prefabrication and installation of construction components.
  • Collaborate with Tools & Outdoor (T&O) Product Leadership for the development and implementation of strategic plans that meet and at times exceed user needs and established product performance criteria.
  • Your small team of developers will be working in an Agile format to continuously deliver new and expanded capabilities that complement our ever-growing list of connected Tools & Outdoor products.
  • Your team efforts will have the benefit of leveraging a robust, scalable best practice AWS digital IoT infrastructure that ensures rich and timely data is available as needed to support even the most complex business need.
  • You will have access to exceptional solution architecture, data developers and eventually Machine Learning (ML) colleagues to ensure we create scalable solutions with deep learning capabilities to providing valuable customer benefits on user safety, device longevity, utilization insights, device control, and demonstrated asset value of our connected solutions.
  • You will work in collaboration with Product Managers and the Mobile team to ensure that our user experiences are nearly seamless between the Web and Mobile Applications.
  • Working in partnership the QA and Performance team to ensure that our cybersecurity protections, quality, and responsiveness, are second to none.
  • You will ensure that we continue to enrich our application lifecycle management best practices with a continuous improvement mindset and demonstrate progress through KPI and metrics reporting.
  • Over time as our products become enriched with highly desired features and we dramatically expand our connected footprint, your team will begin to offload basic operations and support functions to an external team to maintain focus on high value application advances.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of demonstrated relevant experience in the following areas:
    • Principal or Senior Application Developer for front end web applications across multiple digital technologies such as but not restricted to;
      • Development Languages (REACT, HTML/CSS, Java, node, PHP, C#)
      • Web, Mobile, and x-platform (React, React Native, Flutter, Ionic)
      • Scripting languages (JavaScript, Python, Ruby)
      • Graphical User Interface standards (Figma)
      • Cloud Environments
        • AWS (S3, AppSync,  CloudFormation , IoT, Kinesis, Lambda, DynamoDB, Timestream)
        • Azure (IoTHUB, EventHub, CosmosDB, Azure Functions)
      • SSO Technologies (e.g. Akamai, Otka, Ping)
      • Object Oriented Programing Principles
    • Ability to define a digital product vision and detailed roadmap for web products and develop cost models to support product related investments.
    • Successfully managing, prioritizing, and assessing the impact of all work items, such as new features, defects, including providing the decisions on when to create, fix or defer at the detailed project delivery level.
    • Experience leading Mobile Developers in creating Mobile App versions of existing Web App capabilities and maintaining consistent functionality through high quality releases and updates.
    • Referenceable ability to build, lead and develop teams and ensure a high level of colleague engagement as will be eventually demonstrated in colleague surveys such as Gallup Engagement.
    • Ability to lead a globally distributed team and work effectively in a cross functional matrixed organization.
    • Ability to manage team finances to meet budget targets and constraints.
  • 10+ years of demonstrated relevant experience in the following areas:
    • Senior Software Engineer for web-based applications across multiple digital technologies with experiences in object-oriented programming techniques
    • Working with product managers and customer stakeholders to define and track key product performance indicators (KPIs), release-specific success metrics.
    • knowledge and experience working to agile methodologies and lean product development.
    • Providing leadership within Scrum teams to ensure that capabilities are in-scope, on-time of high quality and cybersecure.
    • Successfully implement User-Centered-Design methodologies and research to achieve high user value and satisfaction.
  • Other experiences that are a strong plus include:
    • Successfully collaborating with external partners, vendors, consultants, and Engineering Service Providers to manage overall delivery.
    • Partnering with Global Sourcing teams to support vendor relationships and assist with contract negotiations and cost management to ensure the best possible cost margins are developed for products and services.
    • Previous experience with gamification techniques to make experiences engaging is a strong plu

Education

  • Undergraduate degree (sciences, engineering or mathematics preferred) or 10 years equivalent work experience in advanced web based & digital technologies.
  • Additional digital technology certifications are highly desirable.

The Salary range for this position is $110,600.00 - $178,000.00
