Senior Database Administrator (Remote)

Pay range $55-57 per hour

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a positive attitude to join our rapidly growing company as a Senior Database Administrator. The ideal candidate for this position is hard-working, experienced, and able to excel in a very fast-paced government contractor environment. The position location is remote.

All technical team members are required to have technical expertise in modern software development tools, cloud operations, and the VA DevSecOps Tool Suite, as well as VA Toolsets currently in use.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Database Administrator will serve as a member of a Scrum Team tasked with operating and maintaining the Claims Processing System. The individual will create, implement, and manage expansive database administration programs. The position requires experience reviewing database performance trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and reporting findings. The individual selected should demonstrate up-to-date technical expertise and apply that expertise using the full suite of modern software development-related tools employed by VA (GitHub, Jira, Rally, etc.). Other responsibilities will include:

  • Work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain custom reports, including canned and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards to deliver data to business owner.
  • Ensure performance, security and availability of databases and developed solutions.
  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Review and profile server resource usage, query performance, and optimize and tweak as necessary.
  • Work with application developers and other stakeholders to create optimized queries.
  • Write queries used for front-end applications (websites, desktop applications, or cloud apps).
  • Design and code database tables to store application data.
  • Create table indexes to improve database performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor???s Degree in computer science, electrical engineering or other engineering or technical discipline, plus five (5) or more years of related hands-on experience. An additional eight (8) years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Use of Agile development/project management tools (Jira, Rally, etc.).
  • In depth experience with IBM Data Stage and Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Knowledge of and experience with performing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) and Mirroring.
  • Experience in supporting database Disaster Recovery and Failover and generating Test Reports
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain agency clearance based on a successful background check.
  • Prior experience supporting VA is highly desired
