About the role:
Samsara's Quality Automation and Engineering (QAE) team uses test engineering, automation and data analysis skills to drive product quality so that our customers can realize the full benefits of our platform. To further the goal of quality we are seeking to invest in automation and strengthening our frameworks and integrating with hardware and software.
We're looking for an experienced automation engineer for increasing our automation coverage for Vehicle Gateway or Safety products within the VG firmware product group.
This is a remote role open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

In this role, you will:
- Champion automation frameworks and collaborate with engineering teams to design APIs that prioritize automation from the start, within a close-knit Firmware Quality.
- Partner with your QE Lead/Manager, Engineering and Automation framework teams to define quality goals, expand test coverage, and focus on automation first strategy.
- Focus on automation of new features & existing regression test cases to minimize regression cycle time & improve overall quality of product.
- Build & execute automation tests simulating real world scenarios to find defects & regressions, triage with relevant stakeholders and publish detailed dashboards/reports.
- Develop an automation strategy to facilitate testing activities throughout Samsara product life cycles. Integrate hardware infrastructure for simulation, hardware validation, and product development.

Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferably Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- At least five years of experience in developing automated test frameworks and software tools for product development and validation.
- Strong understanding of test system architectures and understands build, release test pipeline within SDLC.
- Understanding of embedded or distributed system.
- Experience in setting up automated test environments and building test beds with physical hardware.
- Demonstrated proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams with diverse backgrounds.
An ideal candidate also has:
- Has built or worked on customer shipping software.
- Familiarity with testing devices that use wireless protocols such as BLE, WiFi, LTE, and GNSS.
- Proven experience in defining test plans, triaging test failures, and reporting results and relevant metrics.
- Has worked on design and development hardware infrastructure for testing applications (e.g., power measurement tools, RF testing, etc.).
- Has worked with data analysis tools and packages, including SQL, Pandas, Databricks, and others.
- Hands-on experience with test instrumentation, including power supplies, power analyzers, battery simulators, call boxes, and GPS simulators.
