Job Description

Therole of the Senior Actuarial Analyst-Product is to work directly with Upland'sunderwriting teams to deliver

pricing,data and analytics support leveraging the Risk and Analytics actuarial and datascience assets. The Senior

Analystprovides deep subject matter expertise in Excess Casualty and/or Primary/ExcessConstruction technical rate

development,coverage analysis, competitive market dynamics, loss rating, risk variableselection, underwriting

analysis,external data products and the application of advanced analytics to improveunderwriting insights.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluate rate adequacy in the context of Upland's strategic and financial objectives and work with Underwriters to ensure rates maintain adequacy in the future
Develop data sources, tools and methods to create accurate technical premiums and evaluate underwriting

risk including the use of advanced models

Monitor new business and renewal rate levels by measuring rates charged on the Underwriters pricing of new and renewal policies on a policy-by-policy basis
Understand and explain external trends affecting each product by preparing analysis and modeling and explaining results to Underwriters, Finance, Claims and Executive teams as well as including results into pricing models
Develop and test new rating approaches and rating variables
Work with external vendors and sources of data to identify risk differentiating information
Respond in a timely fashion to account pricing support and ad hoc requests
Assist Underwriters to rate large accounts, assemble targeted analysis and provide expert judgment on unique risks
Other duties as assigned by leadership

Experience, Education and Special Skills Required:

Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
1-3 years of direct pricing experience in Excess Casualty or Construction products
Ability to communicate effectively with business leaders and non-technical staff
Exceptional mathematical and statistical knowledge and understanding
Python and/or R programming knowledge including the maintenance of code and use of coding tools such as Github
Database and SQL programming knowledge
Some knowledge of cloud-based tools for managing data and developing/maintaining models
Expert knowledge of Excel including automation capabilities
Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills
