Job Description The Senior Manager of Leases and HR Capabilities will have full responsibility for all lease accounting across the Best Buy Enterprise and responsibility for oversight of the HR Capabilities team. The Senior Manager will lead the accounting related to the new lease accounting standard and be responsible for the overall accounting for leases. This will require the team to maintain and improve processes and controls as our lease portfolio evolves, establish required accounting policy documentation, and oversee the lease impairment process. As the leader of the HR Capabilities team, the Senior Manager will provide oversight to the team and provide accounting expertise as needed including the accounting for HR/rewards, payroll, insurance, legal, and enterprise cost centers. This role is remote eligible, which means you would work virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. Primary on-going responsibilities will include: Accurate accounting for all aspects of properties, leases and HR Capabilities in compliance with GAAP Maintain and improve the global policies, processes and controls related to the new lease accounting standard Provide leadership oversight and technical accounting guidance for the Canada and Domestic Controllership teams around various property and equipment leases Project work including system updates to Oracle Payroll, new system initiatives (e.g. Workday), etc. Responsibility for the annual financial statements and audit of the 401k plans Account for ad hoc changes in HR capabilities to support business decisions and government programs (e.g. 401k Match, CARES Act, severance, etc.) Conduct technical accounting research and discuss accounting positions with external auditors Communicate complex accounting issues in simple terms to senior leadership (CAO and CFO) Lead the team in documenting conclusions in formal policy memos Oversee the design of effective controls and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those controls Maintain integrity of the financial statements for the area through creating proper accounting policies and procedures and applying them on a consistent basis Leading and developing a team including one manager and one associate manager Interaction with key business partners in the area of properties, real estate, Canada, Tax, Legal, External Reporting, FP&A, COPA, HR/Rewards, Domestic Controllers, and others The successful candidate will have the following attributes: The ability to maintain and improve accounting processes and controls in a highly complex areas of accounting The ability to lead a team and create high levels of engagement Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles and an ability to research and link business issues to accounting implications Strong understanding of complex, end-to-end accounting and business processes, and internal controls, with an ability to identify and address weaknesses Required Qualifications • 6+ years of experience in an Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Tax, Treasury capacity. • Intermediate Excel skills Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or 9+ years of experience in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or related field. 2+ years project management or experience influencing without authority 5+ years of management or leadership experience with people Experience of applying GAAP to complex, large company situations Strong understanding of accounting processes and internal controls, with an ability to identify and address weaknesses in controls Experience with the new lease accounting standard (ASC 842) CPA
