Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Robotics Advisor to provide strategic guidance and oversight to our technical teams, helping navigate the complex landscape of robotic automation. This advisor will work closely with our Founder and CEO, our CTO and Engineers, ensuring that our robot development aligns with operational goals and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in robotics, automation, and system integration, particularly in industrial applications, and will support Nexterity in advancing the robot's design, testing, and market readiness.



Key Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight and Mentorship
  • Advise on the development roadmap, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives and technological feasibility.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to technical team members, including the CTO and engineering specialists, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.
  • Recommend best practices in robotics design, control systems, and industrial automation, drawing on extensive industry experience.


Technical Guidance
  • Review and advise on the design of computer vision systems for identifying bolts and flanges, guiding the engineers on algorithm development and system integration.
  • Collaborate with the CTO on the development of prototypes and MVPs, providing insights on system architecture, robotic kinematics, and hardware requirements.
  • Oversee testing protocols and methodologies, ensuring rigorous testing of prototypes under industrial conditions to validate reliability, safety, and performance.


Regulatory and Compliance Expertise
  • Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly regarding safety standards in robotic operations, data management, and lab and field testing.
  • Recommend protocols for safe operation and maintenance of robotic systems in industrial environments.


Manufacturing and Operational Setup
  • Support the Interim CTO in evaluating manufacturing options, supply chain setup, and quality assurance processes to ensure scalable and efficient production.
  • Provide insights into equipment and facility needs for pilot testing and full-scale deployment.


Documentation and Reporting
  • Guide the development of comprehensive documentation, ensuring accurate recording of design processes, testing results, and compliance measures.
  • Assist in creating technical reports and updates for stakeholders, including potential investors, highlighting progress and strategic direction.


Industry Networking and Strategic Partnerships
  • Leverage professional network to forge connections with research institutions, industry leaders, and potential partners to accelerate innovation and commercialization efforts.
  • Provide technical expertise in presentations and demonstrations with early customers or pilot partners to showcase Nexterity’s capabilities.


Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; Ph.D. or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in robotics, with a focus on industrial automation and complex system integration.
  • Extensive experience in robotics development, computer vision, and control systems, particularly in environments like oil & gas, petrochemicals, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards in robotic safety and industrial operations.
  • Proven ability to mentor and guide technical teams, with a strategic approach to problem-solving and innovation.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
