Job Summary: The SilvaCarbon Program is a technical cooperation program under the President's Global Climate change Initiative and a U.S. contribution to the Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) of the intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO). SilvaCarbon leads the capacity building component of GFOI and addressed technical issues including sampling protocols and design, integration of remotely sensed and in situ data, classification and mapping of forest cover, carbon stock and flow estimation, design of monitoring systems for multiple uses, etc. Purpose: The USGS SilvaCarbon Project requires a remote sensing specialist to develop technical materials and courses that will be used for capacity building in collaboration with Mc Gill University, Google Earth Engine and Oregon State University. The materials will look into different methodologies and tools that use Landsat data in combination with other satellite information to map land use change and deforestation in the tropics. Responsibilities: Work closely Oregon State University, Google Earth Engine and Mc Gill University to gather information on methodologies and tools used for Land Use Change and Deforestation Mapping in the tropics. Create the e-learning course content, examples, and materials. This include the customization of the courses to different geographical areas across the tropics. Gather necessary remote sensing data to test and validate GUI developed in Google Earth Engine. Deliver the materials to publish three short e-learning courses at DOI University. No travel anticipated Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Remote Sensing or GIS. 7-10 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Experience working with Google Earth Engine and using Landsat optical Data and Radar data in applications for forest monitoring. Fluent in Spanish preferred, not required.
