Projects will include development of remote sensing systems, components, and algorithms. Development of remote sensing technologies encompasses nearly every engineering field including: phenomenology; orbital sciences; radiometry; imaging sciences; optical/infrared sources; optics; digital and analog circuit design; semiconductor physics; mixed signal microelectronics; software development; materials properties; and mechanical engineering. This is an outstanding opportunity to make a mark in an exciting technology field!On any given day, your job responsibilities may include: Identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternate approaches to optical and photonic problems using individual creativity and judgment. Detector research Multi-physics modeling of high-density devices, components, or systems Collaborating with microelectronics/photonics fabrication personnel Data analysis and interpretation Sensor and subsystem modeling and simulation Performing optical experiments Project management Qualifications We Require Master's degree in Electrical/Optical/Microelectronic Engineering, Physics, or equivalent field plus one year related experience; OR Doctorate degree Optical modeling and experimental experience Ability to obtain and maintain a Q/SCI clearance, which may require polygraph test Qualifications We Desire PhD in electrical engineering, optical engineering, microelectronic engineering, physics, or relevant field Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and experimentation, including experimental design, instrument control, and data acquisition Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time based on business needs High level of academic performance in both undergraduate and graduate programs Extensive experience in the development and implementation of sensor systems, electro-optical sensors and optical design Knowledge of space-based payload requirements, radiation hardening, mixed signal microelectronic fabrication, and sensor test equipment and characterization procedures Experience writing proposals for new technical work and interacting with customers Experience with programming languages such as: C, C++, Perl, Python, Lab View and MatLab Proven leader with the ability to collaborate effectively on high dynamic projects A record of professional success through high-quality product developments, technical publications, presentations, and/or patents Excellent written and verbal communication, project coordination, and a strong dedication to a teaming dynamic Active DOE Q and SCI Level Clearance About Our Team We advance national security missions through the development of innovative concepts for active and passive remote sensing systems, signatures, and exploitation. The department maintains a breadth of remote sensing competencies including target phenomenology, scene simulation, radiative transport, optical sensor modeling, spectral & temporal data processing, and algorithm development. This collection of competencies allows the group to develop novel, mission specific sensor concepts as well as assess and predict mission performance. The projects within the group span diverse mission areas including, but not limited to, Nuclear Nonproliferation, Weaponization, USNDS, DOD, OPIR, and the Intelligence Community.
