Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to implement and execute innovative strategies that fuel growth of the mortgage balance sheet through increased market penetration and optimized production in both units and dollars, while mitigating undesired risks exposure elements. This position partners with department leadership to develop and set the strategic vision for mortgage project development. The incumbent will direct product projects and acquisitions that span several lines of business including, but not limited to, technology, compliance, sales, legal, and marketing. They will drive the product vision and effective change management through research, design, development, and flawless execution.

PenFed is hiring a Remote Mortgage Product Owner at one of the following locations: San Antonio, Texas; Anywhere in the United States. The primary purpose of this position is to implement and execute innovative strategies that fuel growth of the mortgage balance sheet through increased market penetration and optimized production in both units and dollars, while mitigating undesired risks exposure elements. This position partners with department leadership to develop and set the strategic vision for mortgage project development. The incumbent will direct product projects and acquisitions that span several lines of business including, but not limited to, technology, compliance, sales, legal, and marketing. They will drive the product vision and effective change management through research, design, development, and flawless execution.

**The Compensation for this role is $75,600.00-$188,400.00**

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, implementation, and ownership of mortgage product projects to meet current and future member mortgage needs across all channels of business.
  • Review potential multimillion-dollar mortgage loan product initiatives, perform risk assessments, and execute critical decisions with both internal and external partners.
  • Lead and support the delivery of mortgage-related projects and governance in alignment with business strategies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in terms of compliance, agency guidelines, and overall industry trends.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of product matrices and guidelines.
  • Serve as liaison to mortgage insurance vendors and identify opportunities to optimize relationships. Develop and strengthen relationships with external partners including, but not limited to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA/VA to facilitate effective negotiation of terms and pricing.
  • Perform critical testing on an as-needed basis for mortgage product projects.
  • Assess the impact of regulatory changes to the product suite and drive vital modifications to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the implementation of technology and capability that delivers usable, valuable, and feasible product features and enhancements.
  • Grow the mortgage balance sheet through unit and dollar volume growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners including technology, legal, compliance, user experience, call center operations, branch, originations, finance, post-closing, and others involved as stakeholders in the mortgage origination process.
  • Collaborate with senior product manager and other leaders to identify opportunities to modernize the lending experience and enhance the competitive positioning of the product suite.
  • Coordinate the offering of new products and process enhancements with Operations to ensure appropriate staff training.
  • Collaborate with marketing partners to identify marketing opportunities for existing and new product offers.
  • Partner with credit risk partners to identify opportunities to maximize credit parameters while maintaining prudent level of lending risk.
  • Assist with technology project and program delivery; build and maintain working relationships with external vendors and other departments.
  • Develop and execute product project plans and report updates to various levels of the organization as needed.
  • Help safeguard PenFed's computer and IT systems by monitoring direct reports' adherence to all security policies and related training. Partner effectively with IT Security and Human Resources when necessary to address any security breaches.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required, or a combination of education and job experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the job.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of mortgage experience, with three (3) years in product management required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct management required.
  • Proven understanding of product development life cycle.
  • Deep experience developing products, systems, and processes in the mortgage industry.
  • Expert level understanding of the U.S. mortgage banking landscape including originations, fulfillment, post-closing, and servicing.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully delivering complex projects, leading teams, and interacting with the highest levels of executive leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to consolidate complex topics and detail into digestible and actionable content for executive presentations.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced dynamic environment while carrying multiple projects and managing different and often competing priorities.
  • Experience forming strong partnerships with key stakeholders in other areas and working with them to deliver on initiatives. Experience holding partners/team members accountable when necessary.
  • Experience driving results using both business and analytical acumen and developing optimal strategies and tactics to achieve business and member experience objectives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
