Job Description

Individuals within the Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer role work closely with customers and Application Analysts to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. They provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable and is easily accessible. BI professionals educate and train customers to use the data as an analytical tool, displaying the information in new form and content for the purpose of analysis and exploring options. The BI Engineer is responsible for the full life cycle development, implementation, production support, and performance tuning of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Mart, and Business Intelligence Reporting environments, and support the integration of those systems with other applications. They design and implement reporting and analytical solutions, including both the design of table structures and the processes used to populate those structures with data from internal and external sources. The data they provide helps business teams drive improvement in key business metrics, customer experience and business results. BI Engineers also interact with various teams in ITS, project managers, internal and external customers, senior management, and external vendors. The BI Engineer role is a team leader with a responsibility focused on delivering the highest level of technical expertise and guidance to the Joint Data analytics Team (JDAT) and its customers. The BI Engineer works under minimal direction. Strong focus on overseeing senior and junior analyst work and providing technical and substance based direction for projects. In many cases the position will require oversight and delegation of analyst assignments. It is the role of the position to research and pursue new techniques and technologies for the Joint Data Analytics Team. Stays current with national trends around healthcare analytics by attending conferences, conducting independent research, and other methods. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. Application & dashboard development. 1.1 Supports new application development including specification gathering, application programing, validation & analysis, user testing and maintenance. 2. Works with data architects as they design relational and dimensional data models to verify that the model meets the use cases and aligns with JDAT's strategic direction. 3. Acts as a leader in the group for research and understanding of new industry trends and technologies. 3.1 Create proof of concept & sandbox environments to test new methods and technologies. 4. Fosters an environment for department growth through development of internal training. Openly & proactively shares information and knowledge with all team members. 5. Constantly evaluates departmental work flows and standard procedures to ensure efficiencies and requirements are being met. 6. Leads groups of subject matter teams by delegating tasks and ensuring requirements are met. 7. Provides feedback to management regarding performance of other analysts. 8. Understand JDAT workflows while developing application build specifications. 9. Expert level understanding of Epic user workflows. 10. Follow system standards related to workflow analysis, system specs generation, proof of concept validation and sign off, system configuration, application and integrated testing, change control, training, and implementations. 11. Oversight on potential system enhancements from Epic and enhancement requests from end users. 12. Facilitate the development and documentation of JDAT internal procedures. 13. Coordinates and interacts with vendors, both on and off-site 14. Performs all duties and responsibilities in such a manner in accordance with the "I Am Yale-New Haven" service excellence program and the new Standards of Professional Behavior. Qualifications EDUCATION Bachelor degree is required, Master's preferred. IT related field is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE 10 years work experience in an analytics related role. Work experience in a relevant clinical setting preferred LICENSURE Three or more Epic data model certifications required. SPECIAL SKILLS Expert in database management and relational database querying. Business intelligence experience required; Tableau, SAP Web Intelligence, SAP Crystal Reports. Expert level understanding of Microsoft scripting languages and other object orientated programing languages. Knowledge of networking and web technologies, GitHub or other source control experience. ETL skills using SSIS or scripted tasks to accomplish highly complex tasks. Ability to work independently while being responsible for the oversight of others work. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a diverse range of individuals, comfortable speaking and managing up to large groups or audiences.
