Job Description

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs: If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date. Salary Range: $101,400 - $201,400 Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking an experienced and motivated R&D Electrical Engineer to support our dynamic group on Electronic Security Systems and Remote Weapon Systems. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. + Create, build, assemble, modify, or repair prototypes. + Recommend alternative solutions to problems and obstacles. + Set up and conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering analysis. Conduct engineering analysis on systems. + Assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. + Design and lead construction, testing, and checkout of test equipment. + Support such areas as instrumentation, mechanics, computer applications, testing, or engineering data collection. + Analyze results and implement procedures for problems in several subject areas. + Prepare engineering documentation, reports, drawings, sketches, flow charts, diagrams, or schematics. + Develop test specifications, procedures, training materials, and/or work instructions. + Review technical devices/products and documents design compliance, challenges, or errors. + Work with external and internal senior level (General Officer/ Senior Executive Service) individuals regarding requirements, vulnerability assessments, future and existing threats, policies, processes, and technology solutions. + Use engineering principles to design or develop structures, instruments, machines, test plans, processes, systems, or technologies; to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions. + Undertake creative work, evaluate potential design solutions and trade-offs, and use this knowledge to support system integration and implementation. + Travel up to 25% of the time. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field, plus five (5) or more years' of experience. + Experience in conceptualize and communicating major elements of design, engineering, maintenance, processes, or policies. + Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time. + Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance. Qualifications We Desire: + Experience with: + Security system design, installation, and/or testing. + Customers such as DoD, DoE, or NNSA. + Security system components such as sensors, cameras, network, or communications infrastructure. + Weapon systems and robotics design, construction and implementation/troubleshooting. + Defining technical requirements, conducting requirements gap-analysis, planning, designing, integrating, implementing, and testing engineering solutions. + Related technologies, such as mechanics, electronics, security, or computers. + System engineering and integration methods, including the discipline's standards for ethical conduct. + Managing teams or sophisticated efforts. + Ability to emphasize small details and orders of operations by breaking down systems into manageable and discrete parts for better understanding and troubleshooting. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia's, DoD's, or NNSA's policies affecting activities, projects, or initiatives. + Awareness of engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities, including design and systems technology, within a designated subject area + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Ability to excel in a fast-paced dynamic environment. + Active DOE Q-level or DOD equivalent security clearance.
