We are currently seeking a full-time Solar Programs Project Manager II - Consumer Protection to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) team. As a DERs team member, you will help drive customer participation in programs that incentivize the adoption of distributed and community solar. Solar energy is critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role in helping our team make this future a reality. This position will be a part of the Consumer Protection team supporting our work as the Program Administrator for Illinois Shines. The Illinois Shines program (the “Program”) is the statewide incentive program aimed to assist people across Illinois to more affordably transition to solar power. To meet Illinois’ goal of having 100% of its energy come from renewable energy sources by 2050, it is imperative that consumers’ rights are protected when working with companies registered with the Program. Daily responsibilities including but not limited to:  

  • Apply and convey the complex processes, policies and expectations of Program stakeholders 
  • Evaluate participating customer complaints as a member of a high-performing team  
  • Work with consumers (both telephonically and via email) on their complaints and help facilitate resolution of those complaints with the consumer’s solar companies; escalate issues as appropriate to Program leadership 
  • Investigate allegations of program violations, make recommendations for potential disciplinary action, and draft disciplinary-related letters to companies alleged to have violated Program requirements 
  • Manage special projects related to consumer protection issues   
  • Follow established SOPs for complaint resolution and disciplinary action, including communicating directly with solar vendors companies and customers 
  • Document statistics and contributing to disciplinary and complaint reporting 
  • Develop educational materials related to consumer protection requirements and best practices for new companies participating in the Program  
  • Contribute to educational workshops on consumer protection topics such as marketing best practices and Program requirements 
  • Manage the design and implementation of multiple projects and bringing them to conclusion  
  • Communicate project progress to management and clients    
  • Understand Program priorities and adjusting workload accordingly 

 

Minimum qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree    
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, legal, investigations, compliance and/or customer service   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills   
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Office365 and SharePoint)
  • A writing sample will be required during the interview process      

 

Desired qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in an energy, engineering, or environmental related discipline 
  • Knowledge of solar energy concepts and terminology   
  • Prior experience in consumer protection and/or compliance  
  • Proficiency in Spanish, including written communication   

 

Compensation is commensurate with experience between the pay bands of $79,000 - $92,000/Annually
