Thalamus is the market leader in graduate medical education recruitment technology, empowering over 8,000 residency and fellowship programs at 800+ health systems and all new physicians throughout the US annually. As we expand beyond GME into broader physician recruitment, our unique dataset, spanning the full profiles of residency/fellowship applicants and programs, positions us to revolutionize hiring in healthcare through AI/ML and data-driven insights. This furthers our mission to ensure the right doctor ends up at the right hospital to treat the right patients.

Thalamus is seeking a Product Designer to help shape our product and design experiences. This role involves collaborating across EPD and contributing throughout the product development lifecycle, requiring both strategic thinking and strong design execution. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of user needs, crafts intuitive and delightful experiences, and has a portfolio showcasing pixel-perfect design.

As a small but mighty team, we wear many hats and are in the early stages of building structure and formalizing processes. We're also implementing and scaling a design system across all our products to create a unified source of truth for design and engineering across different codebases. This is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact and help shape the foundation of our design system. If you have experience building, implementing, and maintaining complex design systems—especially in a fast-moving environment—we’d love to chat!

This is a rare opportunity to shape the product team of a high-growth, product-led, mission-driven, and growth-stage company that is solving one of the most critical workforce challenges in healthcare, and costs the US healthcare system upwards of $300B annually.

You will...

  • Build a deep understanding of customer needs in the healthcare landscape to craft innovative solutions that meet user needs and business goals
  • Own and drive design problems from ideation to execution with a cross-functional team
  • Demonstrate success by providing an inspiring design that brings together a cohesive user experience, impact, ease of use, and the beauty of the final product
  • Facilitate user research, synthesize user feedback and data, brainstorm with the team to improve the overall user experience, and contribute to the overall product strategy
  • Maintain and elevate design standards in partnership with leadership, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative design culture through feedback and process iteration
  • Build a strong design culture at Thalamus, participate in hiring and mentoring team members

You should have…

  • At least 4 years of prior experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your design work and process
  • Proficiency in the design tool, Figma
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate customer needs, design decisions, and rationale to stakeholders
  • Experience working in a scrappy startup environment with a strong bias for action
  • Experience in effectively collaborating with cross-functional Engineering, Product, and Design teams to deliver products in remote / distributed environments
  • Experience creating 0 to 1 products
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field

Bonus:

  • Experience working with both B2C/B2B customers

The salary range for this position is $145,000-$185,000k and a grant of stock options. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and geographic location.
