Job Description

The Position Genentech's Early Clinical Development Informatics department needs your technology skills to better detect patient data trends and assist in clinical decision making for our life-saving therapies. We are seeking a Principal Full Stack Software Development Engineer to architect how drug development better connects with hospitals/sites. In this role, you will architect a data interoperability backend, middleware, and front end to support the implementation of a network of data exchanges with global healthcare partners. The systems to be incorporated include: electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner), electronic data capture (EDC) systems (e.g., Medidata Rave, Medrio), lab systems (e.g., LabCorp, Quest), genomics systems, medical/consumer devices (e.g., FitBit, Apple Watch), and others. Given the growing digital health data sources and exponentially growing data volume, there is a need to employ the latest AI techniques to better detect data trends and assist clinical decision making. As such, this full stack engineering role is crucial to build products in partnership with product managers, clinical scientists and AI engineers in response to the rapidly changing healthcare landscape. You must possess not only an understanding of possible integrations and their implementations but also a higher-level strategy capability to guide pilot efforts into an embedded business function. Responsibilities Lead a team of engineers to build and deploy novel systems and products that will significantly contribute to the success of Genentech's drug development pipeline Serve as a technical expert with the ability to architect systems with touchpoints reaching across all of Roche's global clinical development functions. To do this, you will maintain current awareness of data interoperability best practices in the pharma and healthcare industries. Effectively communicate and engage leadership across business functions including clinical science, clinical operations, and data science Required Bachelors or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or related field 12+ years experience in the IT industry Proficient with Python, JavaScript Well versed in relational, and non-relational database technologies such as SQL, MongoDB, GraphQL. Must be familiar with database design and optimization techniques. Experience with a broad range of front-end and middleware frameworks and integration technologies such as Angular, React, EJS, Django, Flask, REST / WS API's, MuleSoft, etc. Experience architecting, developing software requirements to health IT standards, and building large scalable applications Experience successfully leading projects and teams, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Functional understanding of regulatory considerations such as Meaningful Use, HIPAA, 21st Century Cures Act, ONC certification Skilled at presenting findings, recommendations and action plans to senior leaders Preferred location for this role is South San Francisco; however, remote will be considered for the right candidate Preferred Experience architecting, designing and building in cloud environments such as AWS (preferred). Familiarity with AWS components such as AWS Lambda S3, RDS, etc is strongly preferred. Experience designing secure and scalable applications. Familiarity with SSO solutions and encryption is highly desired. Programming languages and concepts: Typescript, Java, C/C++ Certifications in key technologies such as AWS and MuleSoft, API experience Experience in HL7's Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard For Colorado-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is 150,100-214,800 . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below. For New York-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is 200,000 and 265,000 .
